I love her. She babysat last night and becuase Child goes to bed at 730, she asked for a project so she wouldn't be bored. I told her to see if she could make my white bathroom look good.
I came home to find it looking relatively good. She pulled the cream color out of the taxi picture I wanted to keep instead of the red and green I was trying to do. She found my crackled glass vases and filled them with cream beach sand (from an anniversary vacation), some white candle sticks and rotated cream and white bath salt. She then found 2 old textured Mason Jars that were my Grandma's and filled with soap bars (Dial, nonetheless..lol..high class yo!). Put that all on the shelf.
The cream really ties together the light fixtures, floor and vanity top in a way I never thought would work. I didn't think I'd love cream and white together, but it works. It's textured enough so it looks cohesive but is still relaxing.
I'd post a pic but the cream vs. white is so subtle on my camera I can't get it to show right. I love it in IRL, but it's not really D*R worthy through the camera.
She also fixed my striped bedding vs. striped chair dilemma last week by throwing a green and white abstract floral comforter on the end. I love it. She's great at pattern mixing and I'm learning, although she breaks all the standard rules the rest of us preach about.
i liked reading that you said your mom breaks all the std rules the rest of us preach about. it reminds me of the opening credits line of candice olson's tv show "candice tells all" where she says it is about knowing the rules and when to break them.
Ha! My mom is really great at that kind of stuff in a simple real life sort of way. She's not going to win any blog awards, but what she does do comes out great. She gives good advice in the decor regard. Even though her own style is a bit more country, full and cluttery than I'd like she does well all around. My mom is also pretty awesome. She's a rule breaker in a lot more than pattern mixing.
