If you haven't watched The West Wing, you will be barred from the board. Seriously. A bunch of us are going to create a trivia quiz, and if you don't get the answers right you're OUT. Now that it's on Netflix, you have no excuse at all.
Sports Night is by the same people as The West Wing. It's ostensibly a slightly-comedic look at life behind the scenes at a TV show about sports, but it's not really about TV or sports, and it's utterly worth watching, if you can get past the laugh track.

You've probably heard us all ranting about it, but Sherlock is worthy of all the praise heaped on it, and more. It's Sherlock Holmes set in contemporary London. The writing and acting are amazing, and it has a truly unique, and beautiful, visual style. There are only six (hour and a half) episodes, so it's not a huge time suck.
If you like Sherlock, check out Jeckyll; I've only started watching it, but it's fab. It's by the same people, and is a contemporary re-invisioning of Jeckyll and Hyde. Again, fantastic writing and acting.
Have you started season 2 yet? We loved season 1 and we couldn't stop watching. Then the first two episodes of 2 were so annoying that we have not gone back to it.
I have been tearing through Gossip Girl. I don't know how I missed it when it aired but it is awesome. It's like 90210 in that it is about rich teenagers, except way better. IT's got fantastic campy goodness to it, kind of like the movie Clueless. I started it 2 weeks ago and I'm already halfway through season 3. Love it.

JUST started season 2 and if I don't get some damn closure this season, someone is going to get hate mail.
Safety Not Guaranteed - Quirky, cute, harmless little comedy with Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Nick from The New Girl
Friends with Kids - Mostly enjoyable romcom, written by the same chick that did Kissing Jessica Stein. Jon Hamm makes a few appearances. Swoon.
Shows - The League, Survivors, Pretty Little Liars, Dollhouse, Parenthood, Lost, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Friday Night Lights, Freaks & Geeks

Yes, Gossip Girl is the best/worst. The last few seasons aren't very good, but the first 3 or 4 are so excellent that it's okay.
I've been watching Hart of Dixie lately and it's utter crap, but I love it.

Geek Alert!
The Battlestar Galactica reboot is stunning. It's about politics and religion and everything that makes us people. Plus, it's fun.
The NEW episodes of Doctor Who are brilliant and fun and totally worth watching (you'll see them dated 2005+). They're some great TV. Don't let anybody convince you that you need to watch the old stuff. You don't. They're weird and funny and totally brilliant edge-of-your-seat TV. They're impossible to describe.
The spin off series from Doctor Who, Torchwood, is also brilliant. You really don't need to have seen DW to watch it, but it helps. It tells the tale of a group of paranormal cops in Cardiff, Wales. I guess it's kind of a modernized, sexier, X-Files. But not. Because they don't need to "believe", as they have aliens in their basement.
Speaking of which, I'm rewatching The X-Files right now. It gets off to a rocky start, but it's pretty freaking good once you get into it. The clothes are a little dated, as is the lack of good cell coverage, but it's fun to watch, whether you've seen it before or not. Plus, I still think David Duchovny is worth watching, even if he's just walking back and forth across the screen not doing anything. See, I'm a geek!
I tore through One Tree Hill during my maternity leave with DS 3 years ago... I got sucked in and couldn't stop. I don't even know if it's on anymore, I stopped watching when most of the main people left.

Please to see my new siggy.
Looper - awesome time-travel mind twister with JG-L and Bruce Willis. LOVE it. Bunraku - awesome graphic-novel-style movie with martial arts, violence, sword play, and secretive good guys matching forces against secretive bad guys. Woody Harrelson is in it too as this awesome, wise bartender.
Someone page me if you want J-horror recommendations. I can ensure you never sleep comfortably again. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Also, just saw Prometheus and it wasn't nearly as vague and open-ended as people complained it was. I actually quite enjoyed it. If you like the Aliens series, it will be up your alley.
DH and I also enjoyed Warehouse 13 (the current-4th?-season must end on the 'Syfy' channel before it's available on Netflix--but you can catch them on the Syfy website if you really want to keep up).
We also got into Burn Notice for awhile, though it got repetitive.
Alias is one of my favorite shows ever. I need to rewatch it.
I also liked Fringe and Torchwood. I guess I like some of the sci-fi/spy type of shows.
As for movies, if you haven't seen Dangerous Beauty, you should. I feel like she was one of the first feminists. It's an older movie, but about courtesans in Venice right before the Black Plague & Inquisition. Based on a true story.

I FLOVE Gossip Girl, but the last few seasons were really a labor of love for me. I feel like they ruined a lot of the characters and made them just entirely unlikable. But I still watched, lol.

Millions - an adorable and charming movie about a little boy who finds a duffel bag stuffed with hundreds of thousands of dollars (well, pounds) and has to spend it all before the UK switches to the Euro.
Cinema Paradiso - one of my all time favorite movies about a boy in a small WWII Italian village who loves movies. I have seen this a million times and I bawl every time. There's also a directors/extended cut that has a *totally* different ending.
