We are horrible with our thermostat. Pre-programming it doesn't work because we don't have normal schedules. I'm a SAHM so I'm always coming and going randomly. I just ordered a Nest to hopefully make us more responsible and efficient. I always remember when I'm out somewhere that I should have turned it down or off which I'll be able to do with the Nest. I had to get the 2nd gen due to compatibility. FYI, the 1st gen is on sale on Amazon today. Anyone have any experience?
The price point is high but I'm hoping it will pay off by making our electric bill lower.
This is on my "I wish" list but I doubt I will ever spend the money until they become commonplace and come down in price. Definitely review it on here once you try it!
We have the 2nd gen, got it for $250. Took maybe 45 minutes to install including removing the old thermostat, making the login, etc. you will need the password for your wireless network but everything else was straightforward. App is great, and easy to use. My best day so far is 45min of energy for the whole day.
I've had no problems with. Bill is a little cheaper but we haven't had it for very long (2-3 months). On average you are supposed to see a drop of 20%.
Yay! I think 20% is awesome but I'd be happy with a smaller decrease. This is also just going to push us into being more aware of our usage... closing blinds to keep the heat in, turning off the lights, etc.
