First, I'm visiting from another board and apologize if this is a duplicate question...but I promise I did scroll through the other posts and checked the FAQ
We've been feeding our dog Wellness for years and are happy with it. Recently we adopted 2 new rescues and now that I've got 3 dogs to feed, I'm wondering if there is another good quality food out there that is more economical.
I second Taste of the Wild. We started using California Natural but saw there were still a lot of fillers, etc. I have cats but I can tell you we saw a different with the two. My girls fur is much shinier with TOTW.
If you have a CostCo membership, Nature's Domain is grain free (about $33 for a 35 lb bag, I think). Even the regular Kirkland Signature brand is well-rated, although it is not grain free ($26 for a 40 lb bag.)

Ditto this. My dogs have been on the ND Turkey and Sweet Potato grain free for a while and do really well on it. At my Costco its $29 for a 35 lb bag.

Our doggie gets raw. We just scored 40 lbs of deboned chicken thighs for $25 (god damn not having a freestanding freezer so we could have bought more!) and picked up some chicken backs to add in for bone (they ran $.76/lb). That's the cheapest I think we've ever managed, but we score $.99/lb red meat once it hits the "K9 pile" at our butcher's, and we add in pork liver and kidney at around $1.25-$1.75-ish per pound. So it's been very affordable for us to give her a grain-free and species appropriate diet!
The kitties, on the other hand, still get kibble and wet food. They eat Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul (dog food also available!). It's not grain free, but it's priced really really well, on par with foods of far inferior quality. They do get GF wet food, though. We just haven't made the leap with trying to switch them to raw, too. Maybe someday if we ever get space for a stand-alone freezer.
IMO TOTW has the best quality product for the price. I know a lot of people who feed it and has gotten great results. It's also rated 5 & 6 stars.
My dog eats all raw with a small portion of Orijen Six Fish for his coat. I tried TOTW because it's about half the price of Orijen and I like the ingredients but unfortunately his skin broke out from it.
We were on Kirkland but switched to TOTW which our Newf does much better on. Her coat looks better and her ear infections have almost cleared up. Her breeder recommended a fish-based food as hers do really well on.
