So my husband and I went out on a Spring New Homes Tour this weekend. One house we went to was really lovely but the open concept kitchen had paited silver wooden cabinets. Not gray, but a really brushed nickel silver paint. Here are some pics from the listing, they really don't do the silver color justice. We both hated it! So is this a new and upcoming design trend? What do you think of it and have you seen it before?
I have mirrored with silver finish dresser and nightstand, so it sounds like something I would like...assuming that it went with the style of the house.
I don't think I would want an entire kitchen of it though...but maybe the island. Maybe.

No, I actually like the mirrored furniture thing. It was all the cabinets painted silver brushstrokes and all that I didn't like. Now that you mention it didn't really go with the style of the house either. I so wish I had taken my own pictures so I could share the full effect!

Painting with metallic paints can be tricky, because they are translucent and you do see the brushstrokes.
What was the style of the house? That kitchen is nms at all, but I do kind of love the look of the island (in the right kitchen). It would be really pretty with dark cabinets, like black or a deep blue.
I'm bad with naming house styles- Traditional or Transitional I guess.... Here are some more pics from the listing. It was interesting instead of the tradtional builder beige you see in most houses, all the living area were painted gray. (which I guess is why the silver came into play on the all the cabinets)
This is the living/familly room which is completely open to the kitchen
I like the cabinets that color. It's a different look. One of my friends, who is an interior designer did a brushed nickle finish on a small parson's table she uses in her foyer. She primed it white first- it doesn't look mirrored, but has a lightness to it that doesn't seem to crowd the space it's in.
I like some of the features in the house, but it seems almost as if it was designed by a committee to include all of the potential trends a young new home buyer would seek-

Just looking at the interior pictures, to me it just looks like so... much. It's not Mount Vernon. It's a Joe American house. EVERY feature doesn't have to be wainscoted, coffered, etc. It looks like it's trying too hard.
Also, I would DEFINITELY not be a fan of those silver cabinets. To me there's a big difference between a piece of furniture here or there that's mirrored, and the kitchen cabinets. Silver overload, and seems uninviting and cold to me.

I have two small matte metallic chests I use as side tables in my bedroom, but I think it works much better for an accent piece. A whole swath of cabinets in that finish just looks wrong, unless you're going for a super industrial look.
not sure if i would want it as all of my cabinet finishes, but would like to have either all my lowers in it w/white uppers or just all white with silver as an island kind of thing.
i actually saw HGTV do this kind of finish on night stands they made on the New Design on a Dime show (have taken to watching it again b/c it really is the kind of design i would do and not the uber cheap-skate design that Design on a Dime used to be). i kinda liked it, but in accents or just doses within a space.
also, i totally agree that i would only use it if it would work in the house. most of those that i know i could get dh to like, it would work as described in my first line/paragraph.
From the picture, I like the look. However, the way that you describe it does not make it sound very appealing. If it's really shiny or has a lot of reflection to it in real life, I'd say no; that finish is fine in small doses, but not in a whole kitchen IMO.
