If I'm at a point where I'm going to have unprotected sex (committed relationship) I ask that we both get tested before we stop using condoms. Otherwise I just get tested at my annual. I don't really have a lot of sexual partners so about once a year is what it about evens out to anyways.

My annual, after XH told me he was leaving, and before FF and I stopped using condoms.
I haven't had a bunch of partners in my life, so usually just getting tested at my annual had me covered.
Edit: I just realized I had an annual before FF and I stopped using condoms, so I guess that backs up what I said about my annual's happening at the right time
I will not have the sex with anyone until they have been tested for EVERYTHING and have shown me the results. You can still get the herp with condoms. I think guys assume "no symptoms=no STD'S" and will assume they're in the clear. As a nurse who worked in a clinic, I know how common stds are, in all ages.
Do you do that even now that you're married? I figured I would stop getting testing at this point, unless of course I was ever given a reason to think I should. My doc said I could start doing every 2 for my PAP now, since I've tested negative for HPV and everything else.
I've always gotten tested at my annual up until now.

Chlamydia,Gonorrhea and HPV at my annual exam. Full panel when I was pregnant and every 6 months for a year after ex left me. I only had protected sex in that year, so the last test ended up being shortly before fi and I stopped using condoms. Otherwise I would have tested then -- he did a test then as well.

Yes! Mainly just for my peace of mind. And really because it's so easy to do if they are taking bloodwork and paps for other testing as well.
Since my cooch has cobwebs from lack of action, I currently do the whole shabang at my annual but if I ever see action again I will have to look into more frequent testing.

Like I've said, I've been will nilly with my sexual health. I was terrified to get tested after FI, since he cheated on me with both sexes. So, yeah. Then when I went to get my Mirena (YES THAT LONG) I asked my gyno about testing. Before then, I got it done annually. H got tested every six months for a bit after his XW since she was an intravenous drug user AND cheated, so.... Yeah. He got tested right before we became official. We still used condoms until we had been dating a year.

Wow. Sounds like he was married to the female version of my XH. I had to do the every six months thing too. Fun times.

Yeah. Thank goodness they never had kids. He did the whole "I'm going to war, have to marry my girlfriend!" thing. They had not been dating long when they married. He left for Iraq about a month after the marriage, too. He doesn't like talking about her. I think he feels bad he ever married her.

I never knew your H had been married before jojo. Ahhhh, youth.
I usually got tested for STDs at my annual, but when I discovered my XH had been unfaithful, I scheduled a special appointment. Then I synced up the 6 month test with my annual. At the 2 year mark is when my HPV nightmare began.
FI scheduled a physical/test before we tossed the condoms. Now that every other form of BC is off limits for me, the condoms are back. 2012 was a bad gynecological year for me.

I know the feeling!
Lol. Eh, we all make mistakes! I think you and he are both just lovers that you think you can help people. He knew she had a pill problem and was trying to get her straight before he left for war. Obviously it did not work.

I thought he would change because he loved me SO much. Haha!

As I learned on here and this year at my annual exam, HPV can take 10 years or more to show positive on a test. That is why the Gyn Association now recommends women over 30, even if they are married, get tested for HPV with their pap as matter of course.

Right, I would do that with my pap still every 2 years, but the other std tests seem unnecessary at this point.
I get tested annually. My doctor and nurse were all "what symptoms do you have??" As if it isn't common to get tested annual... I did a special appointment when I found out XH was cheating. My bf got tested at his doctor's appointment just a few weeks ago so I don't feel bad if we go condomless. We also broke a condom last week and we didn't sweat it.

Lurker here, but I'm really glad I read this. I just tested positive for HPV at my pap two months ago, and I was negative the last time I was tested, which was about three years ago when I had STD testing for our adoption homestudy. DH and I have been married for four years, so I was like WTF.
