We are flying in for a weekend to pick up our puppy. And don't say fly to New York then shuttle to Pittsburgh, we already thought of that and decided we wanted to see somewhere we haven't been before. Will we be close enough to Amish country to stay at a B&B? We have a weekend.

I don't know why I'm answering this since I've never been there, but I was just talking to a guy on the weekend who said that Pittsburgh has a really cool theater district. And my friend's boyfriend would not shut up about Primanti Brothers sandwiches, so there's that.

You could stay in a B&B in Amish country, but you'd have to go a ways. My favorite hotel in downtown is the Fairmont and my favorite B&B in the city is the Morning Glory Inn. It is run by really conservative people, and you will see conservative propaganda everywhere, but it is a nice little getaway in the middle of South Side. I hear the Priory, on the North Side, is a nice B&B. Honestly, though, I'd stay at the Fairmont, unless you really want a B&B. The restaurant at the hotel, Habitat, uses a lot of locally grown, sustainable food, and the rooms are really nice.
If the Pirates are in town, and you don't hate baseball, I would go to a game. The city looks beautiful from the stadium and, although I'm biased, it is one of the best stadiums. Or go to a Pens hockey game (the Cambria Suites connected to Consol Energy Center are really nice, too.)
I like some of the restaurants in Market Square, and if you are here on a Saturday, take a walk through the Strip District. Go to Enrico's Biscotti (they filmed the Scott Baoi film A Wedding for Bella there) if you want something light. Or go to any other diner there.
It really depends on how touristy you want to go. If you like classical culture, the Carnegie museums are great. If you like more offbeat, the Mattress Factory and Andy Warhol Museum are cool. If you like history, I like to go to Henry Frick's House "The Clayton". If you like industrial history, see if the Carrie Furnace is giving tours. It is an old steel factory. They are redeveloping the area around it and making it into a museum of sorts, and it is pretty cool to see. The Clayton and the Carrie Furnace sites aren't downtown, but they aren't that far (unless the Squirrel Hill tunnels are closed that weekend...then I don't recommend going anywhere East of downtown).
If you don't want to pay any money, but you want to see Pgh from a unique view, check out the Public Art walking tours: www.pittsburghartscouncil.org/public-art. Or you could rent bikes (near the jail downtown) and ride around the bike paths, which are really nice.
Thank you all! Yes, I want a GTG ladies. Let me nail down time closer to win we get there?
And hell no my puppy isn't riding cargo. She is riding with us in the cabin, and DH is getting an emotional support animal note so we can hold her in our arms the hole way home. That's why we are flying out there, to keep her from riding with luggage.
We have great museums. In addition to those mentioned, the mattress factory (installation art) is in the Mexican War streets, which is close to both the Warhol, and the B&B mamasaurus mentioned. The aviary is also within walking distance!
I did the following: Visited the Warhol Museum Gawked at PNC Park (didn't have time for a tour) Bought a Primanti Bros. sandwich and ate it on the plane
I like sandwiches just fine, but there's something about those things that just seems so...aggressive.
Like, you will struggle to eat these fries and coleslaw and this pound of meat stacked precariously on this white bread, and you will damn well like it! They give me low level anxiety.
