These scam artists posing as debt collectors keep calling me and my parents. My dad told them yesterday that under no uncertain circumstances were they to call my house again. 10 this morning they called again. My dad said that he thought that if I didn't respond by 4 on Tuesday they were arresting me/serving me. They said they want to give one more chance to pay up.
I've called all credit reporting agencies and checked thoroughly. There is no record of an Emerge Visa. The woman who called this morning was downright threatening me. I actually wish I knew how to record a call. Every time they call it is from some different number so there is no way to know when it is them calling, although I suspect it when I see a strange number.
She recited my SSN to me which freaked me out because why does she have it? I called the police just to ask about all of this. Their response: We don't know anything. Maybe you should pay them if you don't want them to keep bothering you. WTF?

WTF?! I'm sorry you're still dealing with this and how very scary that they have your SSN!
I think you might be better off calling the Attorney General's office. I think some people on MM suggested this too when you posted there. I hope you get this figured out soon and that they stop harrasing you and your parents.
I think I will do that. It just seemed like even more of a hassle. I had to deal with the AG's office when one of their employees rear-ended me. It took 13 months to figure that out!
Ugggh, sorry Rikki that you have to deal with this. That is really scary that they know your SSN. I agree with trying the Attorney General's office, hopefully they can help.

You actually can't record their calls without their permission, Mass is a two way permission state for audio recordings.
I think calling the AG office is a great idea. You should ask them to send you a written verification of the debt if they are so certain it is yours (even though we are sure they are scam artists). I am just wondering if you try to start mentioning things like fair credit reporting act, etc they will back off and find an easier target.
