One of my pudgy students told me that his mom put him on a diet! He brings salads and fruit for lunch everyday. I say, good for them! I totally agree with this assumption in general.
My H has a manual. I can sort of drive it. I've driven around the block and from rest stop to rest stop on long car trips. The thought of driving it in regular traffic makes practically makes me have an anxiety attack, though. He learned how to drive on a stick, so he doesn't see the big deal. He doesn't understand what it'd like to have been driving for most of your life and then get in a car and feel like you have no idea how to drive again!
I can understand that would be a crazy feeling - never thought of it that way.
I just think it's a good idea to know jUST IN CASE you are ever in a situation where you NEED to drive a stick.. but i think in an emergency one could probalby figure it out.
I learned to drive a standard transmission on my moms old beat up truck. We have a mini cooper S so that only comes in standard so I drive it everyday!
My confession/assuption is that I work in a really upscale retail store at night and everytime I see a young skinny girl with an older man whom is well dressed and just carrying the bags, I assume that the girl is a gold digger and is just out to spend the mans money... I know that sounds so horrible...

I always worry people think something similar when I'm out with my dad. We eat out together often without my DH ( he travels for work). A few years ago my dad and I went to the Bahamas for the wknd and we got A LOT of dirty looks.

I miss my standard transmission, not going to lie. (Not my husband's sprung racing clutch that he currently has, but Neon with a normal clutch. )
Either a 302 Boss Mustang or a GT 500 Shelby. They ONLY come in manual.
My BIL hates you.
personally, i'm not a fan of Ford.. but he practically pees his pants every time he sees a mustang.
I currently drive a Focus so it will be a big step up. I can't wait. I just need a job, pay off my student loans, and save up for it lol. It's only a $55k car lol.
Alsotoaswell, back to the whole cars that only come in a manual, the Nissan GTR only comes in an Automatic. It has paddle shift on the steering wheel to make it easier to race.
It's ridiculous how they only make certain cars in manual, and they limit the options as well. When we were testdriving cars for Greg this year, we tried the new Focus because of all the cool options...none of which are available on the manual. We tried the automatic and it felt like driving an appliance.
Well, they do it for sports cars for a reason. You have better handling and control. With the Mustang, I'm going to get a lot of options and features that are only available for a 302 Boss.

When you do buy, you should come down here and go drag racing with the H. He's got two Mustangs, a modern Roush and a classic '69. Of course he pounds the '69 on the track the most since it's not his daily driver (in case something breaks!).

Was that a reply to me? What I meant was that every car should be available in a manual.
When you go in to buy a car and say you want a manual, your options are severely limited.

I KNOW! I was so disappointed about the GTR... DH currently has that has is desktop picture. ohhh man, that car is awesome.

Oh you bet your ass ill be racing lol. I'll take on the roush. The Boss should be able to beat it.

Hmmm, interesting. You'll have to let me know when it's done, I'm curious what they're going to try to sell it for.
they aren't finishing it. they are selling it as it is.
Oh, okay. When you said it needed restored, I just assumed they were going to restore it then sell. Nevermind then, I don't see my hubby restoring a car, or spending the money to have someone else do it. I think if he bought one he'd want it ready to go.

Yeah, believe me, I get that! I <shamefully> pitched a fit when DH bought a truck that barely ran.

I guess being a mechanics wife i don't get this. To me, the point of an old car is to buy, make it your own and fix it up. H has done this with all his cars (his Safari, 1970 Busting, his sisters truck, the 1927Model T, the 1931 Model A,his Chevelle). I just don't see the point in buying an old car already shiny.

Because we aren't all mechanics with the knowledge/expertise/resources to restore, but we love the style or features of a particular car? To me the "point" of an old car is to have a car you love, whether you bought it shiny, or built it from the ground up.

I understand that not everyone is mechanically inclined. To me, it just makes more sense to fix it yourself so you know the car inside and out (almost every car has a repair manual too). I'm not mechanically inclined but I'd love to restore an old car. To me I'm restoring history.
