A little bit of back story, I applied for a job a couple of months ago. When they were interviewing me they mentioned another position that was going to be added in the future and that I might be qualified for it. They interviewed me thinking that I could be good for either position. I didn't get the position that I originally applied for.
Today, I saw that the future position they were talking about has been posted. I am planning on submitting my resume. Once my resume is submitted, should I contact the person who originally interviewed me, to mention that I have officially applied for the new position? If I should, how should I do that? Is an email okay?

I felt like the original interview went well. I just think I wasn't exactly what they were looking for in the original position. I was interviewed by five people. I'm not sure how many of them would be involved in interviews for this new position.
My H thinks I should contact them to try to remind them of me.
I would absolutely send an email to the original interviewer.
Dear Person, This is TemperanceBrennan. I interviewed for XXX position this past fall, and during our meeting you had encouraged me to apply for YYY when it was added to your company. I am writing to let you know that I have applied for YYY position and I am looking forward to speaking with you again. Sincerely, TB
