We've just suffered through when it gets hot, but I'm afraid that may not work with a baby. Not that a/c is in my budget. I'm getting really freaked out about money.
well h said they have them in at target today. the window one is 149.. which i'm not sure we're allowed to have in apartments, i need to look over my lease. the portable is 300. i'm not too concerned about moving it, more which one works better. i'm a pro at getting cool air from one room in the house to another.
I agree w/ JL - portable all the way. you may not be concerned with moving it now, but on a 100 degree day, you'll thank yourself later for having it, and saving it
I would say portable, even though they are pricier. Your complex may not allow the window ones, and if you move, your new place might not have the kind of windows that are easy to use them in.

We got a portable at Costco the summer I was huge and pregnant. It saved my life, our marriage, and I think my sanity. It was a Godsend. I love that machine.
Totally worth it, IMO. Especially since we could move it from living room to bedroom and vice versa wherever we were when it was hot.
We have a portable one. It's really effective. We bought it used, so i'm not sure on the brand or usual price. It's pretty huge, though (like as tall and wide as a mini fridge, though not as deep), so it's not exceptionally portable (it does have wheels, which roll fine on our wood floors, but on carpet, i think it'd be hard to move. Again, not sure if this is usual or specific to our model. I do think this summer will be rough without one!

this is what is what i was wondering. i figuredit'd be huge.. and that is where the cool air blows from right?

Yeah, it's just one piece. Our upstairs is around 400 sf (3 rooms) and it cools the whole space, but the room it's in is cold if the others are cool.
