DD and I would like to learn to knit together. She's 7. I haven't knitted since I was 7. So. Are there kits that are worthwhile? Or should we just buy some needles and yarn? I feel so overwhelmed!
There are so many great youtube videos out there. I hadn't knitted in a long time, found tons of great videos to get me started. Start with large needles, learn the basic stitches and then start a project. Or turn your practice in to a scarf.
Look up local yarn stores in your area! Small yarn stores in particular often have little classes; it'd be a fun thing to do to go to a class together. And it's easier to learn with someone there physically teaching you.
Yes! This! Cambria also has one of those knitting looms and she loves it. Another fun thing to teach kid is finger knitting, look it up on YouTube. You can essentially only make long knitted ropes but it's great for kids to get started.
I also say check into classes at local knitting shops/JoAnn's/we. Youtube is my best friend, but I am also very visual. It is great for refreshers after a class or to learn something new.
If I were going to start without a class, I would get a set of needles around size 6 or 7 because that size is versatile with a lot of patterns.

Or, even just for advice. We have a quilting shop here that sells knitting supplies. There are always old ladies quilting in there and they will help you with stuff. I had to take a project in there because I forgot how to finish it.
Lhc and EM, you guys should Skype and do it. I learned sitting right in front of my BFF watching her cast on over and over etc.
