everyone's normal is different. sometimes my pre-O temps are in the low 97s, but this cycle, they've been between 96.5 and 97.1. it's okay for the core body temp to drop, that is what allows the body to rest and repair, which is the purpose of sleep.
I know "hypothermia" is defined as a body temp below 95, but that would be waking temps. if your temp was <95 in the middle of the afternoon, then I, as a nurse, would be worried.
quick side story: once, in 7th grade, I got sent home from school for hypothermia. I had stepped in a puddle that morning when my mom dropped me off and soaked one pants leg up to the knee. then of course, the school keeps the environment around 65 degrees anyway, so I was freezing. I was in my thick jacket all morning, and by 3rd period around 10 am, I had stopped shivering and was just sleepy and didn't feel well. went to the nurse, my temp was 94.5. they called my dad, who took me home and tucked me in 2 blankets on the couch and went back to work. that was a "free HBO" day too, so I watched R rated movies all day. it was kinda awesome.

My waking temps are always in the 96 range Pre-O and then in the mid 97s after. This is if I temp when I wake up at 5:30am. They're proportionally higher if I temp later in the AM.
Mine is usually high 96, low 97. Then once I O it can jump around 98.
Not to scare you but have you had your thyroid checked? A friend of mine had low temps and that's what was causing it.
I had never even considered this, but I just went and looked at common signs and symptoms and this would make a LOT of sense. I am cold ALL. THE. TIME. and I have bad mood swings, racing thoughts, a high stress level, and now the low temps. hm. What doctor would run a thyroid check? just my gp?
My pre-O temps are mid 96, post-o no higher than mid 97. I've been trying for a long time, and my GYN finally suggested I try acupuncture which I just did last weekend. The acupuncturist looked at my charts and felt like my body is too "cold". He talked about the yin and yang and how one is the "warm" and one is the "cool" and when you have too much cool in your body it can be hard to conceive.
He recommended drinking warm drinks (teas, hot water, at least room temp stuff) and increasing the "warming spices" like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger. Anyways, I've been doing it for a week, but haven't been temping this cycle. I'm going to start temping again next cycle and he SWEARS I am going to see my temps go up.
So, really, take it for what it's worth - I'm not convinced 100% I buy it but at this point I'm willing to accept any hypothesis! lol.
LOL - that's pretty much what I said too! I have had to try to reduce my coffee intake (which, I drink a LOT of coffee, so I needed to do this anyways) and add in more ginger and chai tea.
Also, I just remembered that he said spicy foods too! Like hot sauce. And no citrus. And lots of carbs. In fact, it was pretty much an awesome diet, except if I followed it closely I'd probably gain 15 pounds.
I would go to your OBGYN. When I told mine I was going to start TTC she sent me for blood work which included my thyroid along with other tests to make sure I was healthy to TTC. I ended up being fine but she put me on a Vitamin D supplement. Almost all the females in my family have thyroid issues so I was surprised when I came back clear.
I read on ff that breathing through your mouth when you sleep can affect your temps. Also, are you making sure to clamp down with your tongue on the oral thermometer? It seems like such a little thing but sometimes I am just so sleepy when I take it that I just stick it in there and forget to put it under my tongue. Then I retake it and it goes up significantly.

Yep they just draw blood. When I went in because I wasn't having periods they tested my hormones and thyroid too - which is how I found out I have pcos. I hope this is an answer though! Sucks having to deal with a problem but if it affects fertility then it's good to know.
