Yes! My huskies can't help weighing more than 40 pounds! I am always happy to pay an additional fee because they are furry creatures but it sucks when there is no Starwood hotel in an area (they are all dog friendly) and we can't find a place to stay.
I have a pitbull. I have had people cross the street, make nasty comments and I know one peorson who wouldn't come to my house because she is afraid of her.

I hate breed and size discrimination in dogs. A lot of people have a fear of black dogs and it makes me sad. Our black lab mix is more scared of you than you would be of her. She barks loudly but is a sweetie pie. I think black fur is one of the prettiest fur colors. The shelters told us they have the hardest time adopting out black dogs.
Even though we own a home, we lived in apartments for years and even those that accept dogs often won't accept dogs over a certain weight (like 25 or 50 lbs). They won't let you pay more or anything-just won't allow them. One of our friends has a 60 lb dog and he had the toughest time finding a place that would rent to him.
I love my huge dogs. They are WAY BETTER behaved than any other small or medium dog I've ever met. They are great with dogs, babies and people. I hated when we lived in apartments and 99% of them wouldn't take dogs over 50 pounds
People are sooo scared of Cali. Like, they won't get out of their vehicles if they see her in our driveway and my SIL refuses to come over if she's free in the house, which is complete bullshit and why we don't have them over very often. Turns out Cali is just a massive baby. But I kind of get it. She's 34 inches tall and weighs 130lbs, but do you really think we would have her around our children if she was some kind of killer? Obviously not. Poor pup.

LOL And this is how ferocious my big black dog is. She just laid on my stomach for 20 min. while I "held" her and petted her and kissed her head. She is such a cuddle whore She does this at least twice daily with H and me.

I don't think this is in the same category. at least, the person who wouldn't come to your house. I wouldn't go to the house of someone with a pit bull either.

This is just dumb, and caving to stupid stereotypes. I've never met a pittie that wasn't a total lover. I've known pitties rescued from shit situations and dispute bad starts they were still great dogs. The bad dogs are the exception, not the rule.

I hear this from every single big dog owner. Come on now, there are plenty of well behaved small and medium sized dogs as there are large dogs.
I love big dogs, but owning a big dog takes a different responsibility then owning smaller dogs. When you own a big dog, you know that people tend to be wary of them for whatever reason. You also know that if your dog isn't trained, it could knock someone over or do some more serious damage then a small dog can do. An untrained toy poodle cannot knock someone down; they may be an annoying asshole that shits and pees every where, but it most likely cannot do significant damage to a person.

Not in my experience, sadly. I know it isn't the dog's fault, but when one tries to kill your dog, you think differently.
I would have to know the person really well before I would consider going to someone's house who owned a pitbull.
I've known pitbulls who are gentle lambs and I have known Jack Russel terriers who bit multiple people, including kids
In general, I think judging a dog based solely on their breed without any attempt at interaction, especially if you know the owner, is somewhat ridiculous
My child isn't going to a home with a dog where I don't trust the owner period.
And however ridiculous as it may be to you, I still would be way more concerned about letting my child go over to a house where there is a pitbull then a jack russell.

boooo!
i am only half-kidding. i understand people are scared of my dog. it comes with the territory of owning that breed and it's why i go out of my way to ensure she is the best behaved dog on the planet. if someone so much as seems uncomfortable with us being at the (leash-free) dog park i will put a leash on her. when new people come to our house all of our dogs are kept out of common areas until they let us know they want to meet them/it is okay to let them out. it is a little hurtful that you wouldn't even come to my house because of the dog that i own. you need to give owners a little more credit. your friends that own pits aren't going to put you in harms way and most of us are overly cautious if we know people are uncomfortable.
I don't dislike people with pits, I'm just not going to their house if the dog is running loose. Like dc said, it comes with the territory of owning that breed.
ETA: It's not a matter of not trusting the owner, but dogs in general are unpredictable and really, I probably wouldn't let L be around any dog I'm not super-familiar with. I'm probably overly cautious, I'm a little scared of dogs other than my own.

which is why I said that if you know the owner, I would feel you could trust them enough to feel that they weren't going to knowingly put you, your children or your dog in danger by unleashing their vicious dog on you
oh, no. i absolutely insist my dog eat all of the children. i don't want any kids in my house. ick.

It makes me sad to hear particular dog types being treated like they are bad dogs just because of size, color, or appearance. I want to give them extra hugs (and snausages).

Also, breed of dog does not rank as high on the list of "reasons why a dog is dangerous" as you may think.
--Biters are 6.2 times as likely to be male than female --Biters are 2.6 times as likely to be intact than neutered --Biters are 2.8 times as likely to be chained as unchained
The chained golden retriever in the back yard may be more likely to bite than the pit mix walking around the house. (Especially if he still has his balls.)
I will just throw this out there - working in animal rescue, I got but by a chi and a border collie, and was close to getting bit by a few others. But never a pit. Ever. And 80% of our dogs were pits. There is a reason they used to be called nanny dogs - their temperament is more stable than any other breed I have encountered. In temperament testing the breed scored higher than golden retrievers for godsake.
Some pits have dog aggression, which is a side affect of the years of breeding for dog fighting the breed has had to endure. But dog aggression in no way shape or form equals human aggression. Even dogs bred to fight are bred to be docile to humans because the owners have to be able to reach into the ring and pull then out without getting their arm ripped off.
I hate the pittie hate. I grew up with one and have been around them my whole life. There is just so much misinformation out there about the breed.

Not exactly pit hate, but I get the rot hate. And my dog...you should see the pics I have with him of DD. He has been the perfect dog. When I brought her home from the hospital I sat her carrier on the deck and called for him. He came up to her tail wagging to sniff her and figure out what she was about.
Sure, all dogs aren't like that and some are bad. But dogs are social creatures. They want to be loved. Goes for all breeds, IMO.

I love Rots! There is a GIANT rot I. My neighborhood, and people seem scared to death of him. The first time I met him Sass was 3 months old and like 14lbs, and he just loved her. And then promptly sat on my foot for pets

My dog (killer is his name-o) can be with me outside with no leash and obey hand signals. He is 9ish years old and I am dreading the day i lose him. Fucking hand signals. He was face to face with a neighborhood cat last night and just stood there like i told him to.
