I like it, but I don't love it. I think the stain has a slight red tone to it and I'm not sure if that is a good thing. I really like the gray and tan look and for me the reds coming out makes some of the tan stones look dirty.

This. I was thinking that maybe adding a darker glaze to it would tone down the reddishness and add some depth to it.
Whatever the stain, I feel like it needs to be slightly darker than it is now. Currently I feel like it gets lost amongst the stone, which is beautiful, by the way! Do you have info on it at all? Where is it from, etc?
jhawks482 --- The stone is manufactured by Dutch Quality Stone with color/style of Sienna Stack Ledge.
Regarding a darker color stain, the mantel is maple which doesn't take dark stain that well (I was told it will look blotchy) and that the grain will disappear with a dark stain. That's my only hesitancy with darker stain. Unfortunately, I wasn't asked what wood the mantel I wanted. I'll ask about glazing it and maybe it will make it darker without getting a blotchy look.
