I just had a conversation with my benefits folks today to find out what I'm eligible for...more time than I expected, but less of it is paid than I expected... I'm not sure how much to take, so I'm curious to know what others are doing/did.
I get 4 weeks before birth paid, so I'm taking all of that (the doctor doesn't need to sign me out, STD kicks in automatically at 36 weeks), then at least 12 after. With PTO, two weeks paid parental leave, and STD I think all but about 4 weeks will be paid.
I took 6 weeks of STD, which was paid at 80%, then I had one week of an error in my company's paperwork process, where I was supposed to go back to work, but I didn't, and hen 12 weeks unpaid FMLA. So 19 weeks total. I also took the day before I had her off. Honestly I have no idea if I got paid for that or not, or what it was qualified as.
This time, I plan to take 6 weeks of STD, go back to work until my company has "winter break" (which should be about a week), then after winter break, take my 12 weeks FMLA. Winter break is about 2 weeks long, and paid for, but I wouldn't be paid for it if I was on leave, which is why I need to go back early this time.
