So the only two family members I live near are my MIL and my SIL. My entire family is located in Indianapolis. I would really love to have a baby shower with my family since this is the first grandchild on my side, but I'm not sure it's feasible. What do people do in this situation?
Do I have one early (while I can still travel) and travel to Indy? Do I invite the closest relatives to Seattle? Do I skip a shower altogether? If so, do I still register?

I don't know what is "normal" or proper, but I think if I were in that situation, I would still register in case anyone wants to send you gifts, which I am sure your family would. I believe you can still travel by air up until 34ish weeks (or around there) so maybe you can fly back for the shower? It sounds like it would be easier for you to go there than to invite them all here, except for the shipping all the gifts back.
I feel like I just mumbled that all out, so I hope that made sense or helped at least a little.
so you can totally do one in another state but i'd recommend that people purchase online and send gifts to you at your home in wa. at least then you can get together with all of them, and celebrate, people can give you gift cards or whatever, but ask for no actual gifts to have to take on the flight back. maybe around 25 weeks? or before? I think that would be fine. you may not be huge but your family likely wants to share this time with you!
i'd also probably want to have one here, especially if some one has offered to throw one for you. that one would be much later, like 30-34 weeks and i'd invite family from here, so they aren't required to travel back to Indianapolis with you.
my friends were suggesting we have more than one baby shower.. that sounds great, if one of them were offering to throw me a party, but i think i'll have only one where i'm inviting all of the people who have asked about it and/or are good friends and family. it'll probably be a big one.
I flew to Maryland for my baby shower on Memorial Day weekend. I had the baby on July 6th so I was like 7.5 months or so. It was pretty uncomfortable b/c I had really bad swelling. I ended up buying some pressure socks from Rite Aid and they were so dorky but kept my swelling down. We also splurged for 1st class which was wonderful.

what about gifts?
I know this cause I'm a creepy stalker...but the person who threw her shower said to ship them and put a pic of it in the card...
I vote for traveling for your shower... I also know someone (online) who had a virtual shower where they skyped. I can't imagine this to be fun, but it might work for your family?

Yeah I think traveling is sounding like it might make the most sense. That way my grandma would also get to participate (she can't travel out this way). As far as the skype thing, I think I'm the only person in my family that knows how to do that!!
