I have shoulder-length hair that I usually wear in a pony tail. I'm trying to find something new to do with my hair and would love it if you could PIP some ideas for me.
I am open to anything- haircuts, updos, half up/half down, etc. I just need a change!

Get a bob or you'll continue to reach for a ponytail elastic because it's the lazy way out. If your hair is too short to ponytail, you can learn a few new tricks. Get something edgy to make you feel like a SOOPASTAR. Then buy new eyemakeup and some platform heels.
I'm only saying this because it worked for me. -Former Frump (with a ponytail)

My hair is somewhere between Grace Potter and Rachel McAdams longer style at the moment, but it can be done on a shorter length. I almost never wear my hair up and haven't done much to style it in a couple of years. I just have an excellent stylist who is very skilled at precision cutting techniques. Find a salon that specializes in these techniques and stay up to date and you won't have to wear your hair up or cut it off. Between my cut and color, I get stopped at least 3 times a week by strangers pumping me for info on my salon because of the fantastic job that they do. I've also had FB friends compliment my stylist on her salon's wall without even telling me. If you want easy styles look up sock bun curls, fishtail braids, and headband curls on Youtube.
My color is almost like this, but I have a chunk of pink in my bangs.
This gal has some pretty great hair tutorials for shoulder length hair. They are fairly quick and easy for the ones I've tried. www.thesmallthingsblog.com/
FCG - I love that haircut! What shape face do you have?
Thanks! It's an oval shape. This style has been one of the best in years. I really like the bangs since it still looks done on the very rare occasion I wear it up. There's also a layer that's just a little longer that frames my face nicely to keep an updo from looking severe and highlights a great pair of statement earrings.

Yay for color! When I get back from my trip, im turning my hair from what it is now, to this
But more purple I think. Fun hair is fun.
That will be awesome! I can't wait to see it! Did you notice Bimbi's blue streaks in the FOTD the other day? I love fun colors. I have a good friend with forest green highlights in dark brown that looks awesome. I love the blues and purples with the really dark hair. There is no hiding mine. I'm just shocked that my 60-something year old parents love what I did.
NO!?!?! Bimbi, I wanna see your blue hair! I thought her hair looked darker, but didn't notice blue!
ETA: Ohhh I just saw it! That is the best blue I've EVER seen on anyone. The combination of colors is phenomenal!
That's why I posted the Aja picture in the 80's thread! I love it on her!
If you ever want a change of color with little to no comittment, hair chalking is the way to go. Youtube has tutorials all over. You can use oil pastels, pastels, or chalk and water to get very vivid temporary color. It doesn't take a lot of time and washes out easily. DH colored my hair blue one night for a hockey game. OP that another option if you really want to get adventurous.
