So backstory is that last Nov my daughter had lice. I have no idea where she got it.. and I don't care. It happens. I treated it the way I was supposed to.. (also took all her stuffed animals bagged them and threw them in the basement, changed linens, sprayed with the nit killer etc) continued to check and there was nothing. A few weeks later she is scratching again. I find a bug. I treat the hell out of her hair. No more lice. NO nits nothing. For preventative I spray her hair daily with diluted tea tree oil, and once a week she is getting cocount oil treatments. No lice. I check every single morning. She gets annoyed with me but she has super curly hair so this is necessary bc the treatments are a pain in the butt.
So that was Nov. Christmas day she is itching. I check.. a fucking bug. Go out, get stuff to treat her. She says that so and so in her class is constantly itching. Is this the person spreading it? not sure. but again, all the animals are STILL BAGGED in the cellar, entire room is cleaned, sprayed, everything washed in hot, she got a treatment, I put coconut oil on her head and a shower cap overnight. Clean out the head, check every ... single.......day.. there is NOTHING. Every time she even scratched a full on search was done.
so friday she is scratching. I look.. NITS. I am about to lose my shit. Clearly someone has it and isn't treating it. How can she have it three times since November. This is ridiculous. I have spent a lot of money to take care of this and it pisses me off that clearly others don't take it seriously.
RANT OVER. Thanks for listening
ETA: I should add that since Dec I have checked her daily.. no nits NOTHING until Friday
Have you asked the teacher or any other parents from the class? Surely she wouldn't be the only one who has it, and if another child constantly has it , resulting in her getting it 3 times, it's a neglect issue and needs to be addressed.
I have talked to her teacher. She said she is keeping an eye out but that they don't even send notes home anymore about lice. She said that this school year the only parent that has even informed her their child had lice is ME.
She is in an afterschool program too so I notified them. I am at my wits end. I did a treatment on Friday and will do another in 10 days. And the preventative stuff. But they are SO HARD to get rid of and I can't take this anymore. this poor kid.
My mom had to do this once for my sister and I remember how miserable it was. I assume you've also replaced brushes and combs (probably a stupid question, but I figure it's worth asking just in case)
I can't believe she's the only kid. How are the other parents not saying anything?

if this were just in your house, your other kids would have them too. She is getting them somewhere and I think there has to be an effort at the school to make sure other parents are aware.
Ugh! Are you treating the entire house? Everyone should be treated, as should all of the couches, vehicles, etc. It's a pain in the ass to get rid of, especially if the other student isn't being treated.

In most states you can get a nurse from the health dept. to come to your home free if charge just in case you are somehow missing something. I would do that so you know that you have done everything you can and place it back onto the school to figure out what their part of this is.
When she first got lice I boiled all the brushes. Then when she got it a second time I threw them all out and got new ones. Now this time I have boiled them and will throw them out too but it was easter weekend and I was busy so today at lunch I am buying all new brushes.
I didn't treat the car.. OMG maybe her high back booster... I didn't even think of that. OMG maybe its MY FAULT ugh.. now I feel like dung.
My kids had it but it hasn't been back. Thankyoubabyjesus.
I talked to the doctor about it and she said that she has people wash their kids hair with cetaphil. you know, the face wash stuff. Rub it into the scalp. wait an hour. comb it through the hair. wait 8 hours. wash it out. Do once/week for a month.
I'm sorry
what about scarves, coat collars, hats, hair ties, brushes, head rests in the car?
Also - have you ever thought about having her friends over and 'playing' beauty shop? you could say you're going to braid everyone's hair and check them all.
I'd go over the teachers head. Get the nurse to inspect each kid. All the schools I've heard of have a policy that you must be completely lice free (checked by the school nurse) before returning to class.

The teacher probably can't give you any more information than she already has due to privacy issues (whether she knows more or not). I agree with contacting the school nurse and requesting that the class has their heads checked. I teach elementary school, and this is very standard protocol. It is one of our school policies that anyone with lice had to be checked by the nurse before returning to class. The problem is that a lot of parents find it at home and don't report it. Also, if all of the kids in the class use the same coat closet, have your daughter hang her coat off to the side, or stuff her coat in her backpack instead of hanging it. A wrinkled jacket is WAY better than more lice!

My sister had this problem last year and they only got rid of if when they went on vacation and then she talked to the teacher who said she really couldn't do much about it other than notify the parents and as that their children be treated.
Was it you that said the school "couldn't alert parents?"
When I worked at the school if one kid in the class itched the entire class would go to the nurse. If the nurse found something they would send letters how and that kid would have to go home until it was treated.
I remember one girl's mom got interrogated because she got her daughters hair cut and two days later they found lice. The nurse was all "YOU HAD TO KNOW SHE HAD LICE SINCE YOU GOT HER HAIR CUT" The mom was freaked out, but was like "hell no I didn't know she had it - if I had known I would have burned my house down by now"
