And that person is whoever recommended the Mario Badescu buffering lotion for people with cystic acne.
I don't remember who it was, BUT GIRL I WILL BOW TO YOU.
I've suffered from painful cystic acne for friggen YEARS. Like, honest to God YEARS. My skin has been the bane of my entire existence. Nothing has worked - Proactive, hormonal birth control, washing my face, not washing my face, using benzoyl peroxide, changing my pillow case, no sweets, no dairy, fricken NOTHING. I constantly have some sort of blemish like right on my chin so bright red that nothing covers it and small children stare like I'm a goddamn rodeo clown.
I've been using this stuff for like 2 weeks - TWO WEEKS - and my face is CLEAR. This morning I went to brush on my usual concealer, and other than under my eyes for my holy-hell-you-could-fit-a-quarter-in-those-bags dark circles, I didn't need to spot cover ANYTHING.
I cried. Loser.
But thank you!! I'm now going to go buy some stock in this shit, and then a case of it so I never run out.
Yes -it is THAT great. It has worked wonders for my DH. He's tried everything known to man in the past and SWEARS by this stuff. He did think I was crazy when I bought it and forced it on him. He didn't think it would work but its amazing.
He uses the drying mask as well (use on spots for 20 min, wipe off then put buffering lotion on it overnight). That has really helped the cystic flare-ups as well.
Two questions: when in your skin care routine does this get used? And how much should it cost? Because I see 1oz for $17 and 1oz for $83 on Amazon, lol.
That's what I spend when I buy it at Blue Mercury (a high-end Sephora like store). I use it after I wash & moisturize for the night.
I did notice that people say they put it on after moisturizer. DD has bad eczema and we have been rigorously taught by her dermatologist on the order to put things on. He says always do any medicated ointment before mositurizer. The moisturizer acts as a barrier and will lessen the effect of medication if the moisturizer is put on first. I only mention this so you get your $17 per ounce money's worth. Or does the directions say to do moisturizer first?
Just started using it about 2 months ago and I really like it. It doesn't dry out my skin. I also use the Murad Spot Treatment occassionally. That works really well for my breakouts (I do not have cystic acne like my DH).

Maybe I'll try this, too. My cystic acne has basically gone away since I've been using my clarisonic, but I've gotten one or two random ones. Maybe this will stop them for good!

It's $17 for the 1oz buffering lotion. Which seems small, but it goes a looong way. In the 2 weeks I've been using it, I think I've used 1/10 of the bottle. I usually go over my face with a Pond's make up remover to remove my eye makeup, then wash my whole face with Clearasil Acne face wash. Then I dab on the buffering lotion using a cotton ball - on the blemishes, and anywhere I usually get the acne (typically the T zone). After that, I use the MB drying lotion on any blemishes and then use Jergens moisturizer everywhere else. I shit you not you guys, my skin is like... glowing.
I was always taught to do a treatment directly against the skin, so I do that, too.
Esquire, if it was you, you have my love and respect for the rest of time. Come to Boston. I will buy you ALL THE THINGS.
Just ordered! I have the worst skin and it makes me insane. I have tried everything. It works for a little while and then, no more. Thank you for sharing!
So, I bought the drying cream a couple weeks ago. I get random cyctic acne around my mouth sometimes. I have heard you can't do much for that kind of hormonal acne. This cream hasn't done much except dry the crap out of my face wherever I put it. I use so so little of it and it still does.
The salewoman at Ulta said I shouldnt use the face mask because my acne isnt bad enough and it would really dry me out.

Maybe I'll try the buffering lotion.
I don't use the drying cream at all. My DH does & it works really well for him. I get red, dry spots from it. The buffering lotion we both can use with good results.
I bought this also after esquire recommended it. I put it on a huge cystic pimple on my cheek. That fucker was gone completely in 2 days. TWO! I was amazed. I used it before my moisturizer as well.
For the poster asking about cleaners, I've been using this for awhile and I love it:

I ordered this cleanser and the acne scar fading gel (for $60!), but if it works, it will be WELL worth it.
I want to try the Buffering Lotion too, so I'll have to make a trip to Ulta.
