so when i announced i was having twins, i asked my family if they run in either side.. both my grandmas said no.. until yesterday.
my dad's mom said that her grandma had 2 or 3 sets of twins (full italian catholic family.. no birth control.. ended up actually having 11 surviving children.) my dad's aunt's granddaughter has a set of girls. my grandma also told me that my great grandma's daughter's son has a set.. but that doesn't count.
either way, apparently they run in our family. i'd love to know if they were fraternal or identical but there is no way of knowing.
so apparently i'm not the first, they run in my family and in my h's so our kids better watch out..
actually i found out twins don't "run" in my family, but they have existed... my mom says my grandma (her mother) had twins, but chose to end the pregnancy. my mom said she also had a freakishly long cycle once and her dr suggested that it might be because she had two eggs released.
i'm glad i dodged a bullet.
i don't want twins...no offense to you sarack, just not something i want for me. i think twins are awesome and super cute...just not for me.
Twins apparently run on my dads side I believe but they seem to skip a generation making it possibly a chance for me to have a set. I have nothing against twins but I love being pregnant and would love to be able to go through two more pregnancies with singles for a total of 3 kids.

You can release to eggs in one cycle (one from each ovary), but they happen within a day of each other (both are triggered by the same LH surge); if conception and implantation don't occur, then menstruation does, but another egg won't be released until the next cycle. A long cycle can be caused by all sorts of things, but the dr.'s explanation doesn't make sense to me.
And while we haven't had an u/s yet (so i don't know for sure...), i'm thinking there's just one in there, and i, too, am relieved. Twins would be amazing and exciting, but scary. And we only want one bio child, so i'm definitely not hoping for twins, myself.
also, i think if you had twins, none of you would know the difference, so you're only saying that because you've only had one. but i think it's fucking cool.
you can also release two eggs from the same side, as in my case. :0)
Oh, really? I didn't know that. How do you know they were both from the same side?
great question! during my 7 week ultrasound, they looked all over. they found 2 empty follicles on the right side where the eggs were released from, and none on the left. this doesn't mean that they both released on the same day, but they could have.

I didn't realize they stuck around that long. Neat.

i had no idea either! but i learned something new that day!

i'm not exactly sure what/how happened...that's just what she told me..and i smiled and nodded.
As a twin and an older mom, my OB was almost certain I'd have twins...nope! Just one awesome baby! (the metabolism malfunction that I have is usually accompanied by infertility so getting pregnant at all was apparently pretty unique)

Yeah, it doesn't really matter. I was just grumpy, so i had to be "right"
