One of our pregnancy/parenting books has a "baby hacks" section. Things like shining a flashlight on your belly and getting baby to move around. One of them is to put headphones on your belly and play a song for your baby. They say that you can "teach" them to recognize a song by playing it over and over this way.
i disagree with headphones for your baby....i saw a video u/s once of someone playing music for their baby...the baby jumped and was visibly scared. somebody shared the link on my BMB last time...i wonder if i can find it.
i do, however, agree with background music that your baby can hear.....when i was ktfu with bjl, i sang the ABC's to her non-stop (when i was in a car, alone). i'm a little surprised she didn't come out signing them.
Interesting. I tried finding that video and all I get is suggestions for background music for ultrasound videos. Let me know if you find it.
i tried finding it, but wasn't able to....it'll have to be a more in-depth search when not at work... i'm flooded with various user-questions for "is it safe"....i'm sure in one of those *someone* will have posted it!
H and I talked/sang to Elliott all the time while I was pregnant. I referred to him as "Squirmy Worm" from when I first felt movement, because he was such an active little guy in there. That was basically my default name when I was talking to him, e.g., "How's my Squirmy Worm today?," "I love you, Squirmy Worm." So, this may make me sound crazy, but when he was just a few days old and barely acknowledging the outside world, I called him "Squirmy Worm" and he instantly turned toward me and had this look of recognition on his face. It's hard to describe, but it seemed totally clear to me that he KNEW I was talking to him, and that he was "Squirmy Worm."
I do agree with Jennlin that the headphones are not so great; they won't hurt the baby, but they are startled by loud noises. Same with the flashlight trick; imagine if you were taking a nap in a dark, cozy room and someone suddenly flipped on the lights. Annoying!

First off, lol.
Second, any suggestions for a song?
I don't think it's really lol. I sang to my belly all the time and when they put Thor on me right after he was delivered, I sang to him while they stitched me up and it seemed to instantly calm him down. If I sing any of the following songs: Morten Hacket's version of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You", Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" and Extreme's "More Than Words" still makes him instantly smile.
Sorry, I should clarify that singing to one's bump or one's partners bump I get.
But headphones on the bump ... I had to laugh at that one. In a "seriously? That works?" way

J wanted to put the Star Wars theme on my belly when M was in there. LOL
But I did sing to M and talked to her, and when she was most upset in the NICU, I sang to her and it calmed her. It seemed that any time she heard my voice, she calmed down.
ETA: Fun story... I was about 30 weeks pregnant, and J had gone to his parent's place for the weekend without me (can't remember why, but it's not relevant). When he got back, M had been really still for a few hours, and I was sitting on the couch, and J sat next to me and started telling me about his weekend. As soon as he started talking, M went NUTS in my belly and was kicking and rolling around - she had obviously missed hearing his voice and was happy to hear it again. It was the sweetest thing ever, and J even got emotional. It was so cute.

niq, i give up in trying to find that video...i've clicked on like 20 posts... i know it's probably rare, and maybe it was that-baby-only, but it scared me enough where *i* didn't want to do it. i'm pretty sure i cried when i watched the video. i won't judge you if you do, and i know lots of people do, and their babies are just fine (i think).
