This one has a back light which may help. Can your DH get up with you, turn on the light and watch for it to finish? Also you can set your alarm 5 mins earlier so you are not in such a big rush.
I did not know you were deaf, that's frustrating about the temping. Ditto vmars. Alternatively, could you wait a full 2 minutes every time? It's never taken longer than 2 minutes for me. I have a certain way of holding the thing in my mouth so it's always under the right side of my tongue and pressing into the center connector of the tongue. I have trouble breathing through my nose, so that can be a challenge when I'm temping.
mekiakoo, I love you and you're super sweet, and please know that I say this in the true spirit of TTC sisterhood because we are all frustrated... but my gosh woman, you are making this harder on yourself than it strictly has to be.
you know I'm also deaf. I also cannot hear my thermometer beep. I just leave it in my mouth for a couple minutes longer than I think is necessary to give a reading (probably a total of 3-4 minutes, since I think my thermometer reads in 2 minutes). sometimes I even doze a little bit while it is taking. then, after a few minutes, I look at it. if it shows a temp, then that is my temp. sometimes it has turned itself off. then I just turn it back on and walla, that is the last recorded temp. I honestly think you're being a little impatient with the thermometer (probably because you're used to the ear thermometer, right?), so try counting to 120 like 1-mississippi, 2 mississippi, etc. that will be 120 seconds = 2 minutes = your thermometer should be done and you can now take it out your mouth. it would be a good relaxation technique too, I think.
taking an oral temp for fertility charting is the EXACT SAME as taking an oral temp to monitor for a fever. there is no different technique. deaf people all over the world have figured out how to take an oral temp without needing flashing thermometers.
I agree with vmars about setting your alarm 5 minutes earlier if it is putting a kink in your morning routine.
I think you're reading more into my post than is intended. I am not intending to be rude, but trying to say that maybe she is overthinking the process of taking a temperature.
I have to agree with vmars in the other thread, that I think you are spoiling for a fight, since this is the second confrontational post that you've posted in the last hour, hour and a half. therefore, I refuse to be drawn into it, and will instead go to bed since I've been awake for about 18 hours. if mekiakoo is offended, she can tell me herself and I will apologize.
I can see how this would be annoying. I feel like my thermometer sometimes takes 30 seconds and sometimes 2 minutes, and it's mostly dependent on whether I am holding it right. If I am not holding it right, it quits beeping and I know I need to move it. But I can hear the beeping so I know.
Is your DH deaf also? I am thinking you posted that before, because the obvious answer would be for him to listen for you.
I like pooh's suggestion of just keeping it in a total of 2 minutes. Also, practice with it when you are looking in the mirror with lights on to make sure you have the positioning down so that it is reading the whole time and not waiting for you to have it in the right position.
I know you are supposed to be as still as possible and take the temp the second you wake up, but if you find it's best to sit up or turn on a light or whatever, I would do that. I find that I still see patterns in my temps even though I take them at a range of 6am to sometimes 8:30am, and I often get up to let our dogs out or go to the bathroom an hour or so before I wake up for the day (when I think it's ideal to be resting 2-3 hours beforehand).

When I temp'ed, I would count slowly in my head, and noticed it usually beeped after about 2 minutes. I did it because it helped me not fall back asleep with it still in my mouth. Amazing how long 2 minutes is when you are just laying there waiting.
ETA: I would temp when ever I woke up in the night, instead of when I woke up for the day. It wasn't always at the exact same time, but it was almost always after 3 hours of sleep. You'll just have to see what works best for you.
Mainly my issue is taking the temp after 3 hours of being asleep, sometimes it is at 3-4 am, I rarely sleep longer than 3 hour stretches. Would it be fine if I just take the temp when I get up for the day even if I haven't been asleep for 3-4 hours straight?
I also only sleep in 3-4 hour stretches. I take my temps after at least 3 hours of sleep. because of my shift work, temping daily at the same time doesn't work for me personally. like today I woke up at 4:30p after 5 hours sleep, while tomorrow, I intend to wake at 8 am after (hopefully) about 8-9 hours sleep. it is okay to have a bunch of open circles on your chart, mine has lots, as long as you see a temp shift. so unfortunately, it takes a full cycle of temping before you know it's working.
I know it can be frustrating when you start temping, I was frustrated too. hang it there!
you can try both methods: TR and thoseareradishes, to see which works for you since you say that you do usually get up at the same time each day.
Also, practice with it when you are looking in the mirror with lights on to make sure you have the positioning down so that it is reading the whole time and not waiting for you to have it in the right position.
Temping is annoying and it sounds doubly so when you can't hear the beeps. Can you keep a hand mirror at the bedside and angle it at the thermometer before you take it out? Most have some sort of visual cue on them to let you know they are ready.
I got a cheapie thermometer that reads in like 10 seconds. Much easier to count mississippi-ly when you're only counting to ten It's just a regular thermometer, not a BBT (I think you and I have talked about this before - I don't believe BBTs are necessary), but it is digital and reads every .1.
