I don't think so. But I'm picky. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere with a room facing bourbon st, for fear of noise.

I'd probably do it. I've used hotwire and priceline a few times for local hotels and none of them have been scary or gross.

We did 4* in the FQ last year but didn't get anything for the price we were looking for. Expended to include Downtown and got the JW Marriott for $80/night. Better bidding has a great reference for which hotels you might end up with.

ETA: sorry it was Priceline that we used, not Hotwire.

We've had pretty good luck with Hotwire, so I would probably go for it.
