I am trying to shed a few pounds, but TTC is making it harder to stay motivated. In the back of mind I am always think, "well if I GP this cycle this won't matter, so why bother?" I know, it's dumb...because if I stuck to it I could've reached my GW by now. Anyone else have any advice on how to keep motivated during this process? My DH has been actively losing weight since January which should make things easier, but I somehow find a way to sneak in extra calories I don't need during the week!
sorry, I don't have any advice. my H and I agreed that we DON'T want me to start working out right now since doing so would stress out my body even more and delay ovulation. according to my last couple cycles, my ovaries don't like stress, lol.

good luck!
I was under the impression ovulation was only delayed if you worked out rigorously? Besides, I have gotten results with weight loss with light exercise and focusing more on a healthier diet, so that shouldn't be an issue for me. I really just need to lay off the sweets!! I've also had delayed ovulation all cycles off BC - not sure if that's normal for me yet or my body is still adjusting.
you might be right. but when you go from couch potato like I am to working out 3-4 days per week like I would like to (I love Crossfit and want to join a box now that I have the money), then my body would probably take that as vigorous exercise, lol.
Have you thought about joining myfitnesspal? There are a bunch of mm-ers on it I think that can help motivate you. I joined a really nice and $$ gym. I drag myself there 3-4 times a week because I hate wasting money. My SIL had a competition with her BF to see who could lose more weight (I think the winner got to choose where to go on vacay or something like that). Could you do something similar with your H?

I've been thinking about taking a zumba class really close to my house. I don't like just going to the gym - I definitely enjoy classes more. I used to dance a lot, but there are no adult classes nearby - zumba seems to be the next best thing in my area.
I've used myfitnesspal before, but I never keep up with it - I think I will try it again though. I lost weight before our wedding in 2010 (a total of 27ibs) so I know I can do it - I just really lack motivation.
I would never win a competition with DH - he has so much more self control & loses weight a lot quicker (because he has much more to lose than I do). I think I'd do better if I had goals like lose x pounds and get a new purse, etc.

DEFINITELY try Zumba! I do it 1-2 a week and its awesome!
As far as exercise and ovulation/early pregnancy go, my doctor said if its something you already do or add in slowly, its unlikely to have a negative impact....you cant suddenly go from couch potato to training for a marathon but if you slowly add a couple of Zumba classes or spin or whatever you can also keep doing it after you get your BFP
I tried the Wii Zumba game and I was so-so on it, but I am hoping a class with real people & instructor would be more fun. I think I will look into going sometime soon - I just wish I had a friend or someone to go with.
I don't have any specific exercise advise because I am very bad at consistency, but just a word of encouragement that losing weight now is not pointless at all! Even if you get pregnant now it is important to eat healthy and keep up a moderate level of physical activity. You are really helping yourself and the baby by keeping going! Also, every pound you lose now is a pound less to lose after the baby. Maybe your husband would take evening jogs or walks with you to help you stay motivated
we took a short walk tonight - once it gets a bit warmer we will take a long walk a few times per week.
I tried Zumba, but it wasn't for me. I take Jazzerise instead and love it. Since TTC is taking longer than expected, I needed something to focus on. For me, that is getting my body in the best shape possible before baby. That thought keeps me motivated when I might otherwise slack off! Since the spring weather is finally here, my DH and I have been running again - my goal is to run a 5k race. I pretty much hate running, but thought I would give it a try.
I begged H for an elliptical because I really need to lose weight, especially now. I have gained quite a bit of weight over the last year and it pushed me into plus size clothing. I'm in a panic about plus size maternity wear!!!
Right now I'm working crazy hours (errr... I'm at work now, going on my 12th hour) so I haven't been using the elliptical since January and many nights we end up eating fast food because I don't have time, supplies, or energy to prepare a meal. I've been working on making healthier choices when we do fast food at least!
Should we have a TTC weight loss club?!
Yes, that would be good...I am in. Can you pack dinner instead of getting fast food?
"well if I GP this cycle this won't matter, so why bother?"
If you get pregnant you will have all the more reason to eat well and stay fit. How fit you are can make a huge difference in how you feel during pregnancy and how your labor goes. Use it as motivation to get an early start :-)

I know I eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner and recently began storing healthy snacks at my desk so I don't indulge in the endless supply of M&Ms at my office, but I will have sweets when I get home or get take out on the weekends. I am small - 5'1 - so every pound shows and it stinks. I've only lost 1.5 ibs in 2 weeks, but I am hoping I can start making better choices again.
I lost about 25-30 pounds a few years ago, before we started TTC. I had your exact attitude, "If I get pg, this cupcake won't matter," and in the last two and a half years, I gained it all back Now I'm trying to lose it again. I've lost 8 pounds already, but I really wish I would have never gained it in the first place.
So, moral of the story, don't be like me. Put down the cupcake

I'm a healthy weight but TTC is the only thing that has motivated me to get in shape. When it gets hard, I remind myself of how it will help my eventual pregnancy and labor, and how it will give me more energy to enjoy my baby/child once s/he is here.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!

+++++ we're still TTA (against my baby-rabies' demands lol) but I started working out like a mofo purposely to be in the best shape possible before I get KU. I'm already a hormonal mess every month and just assume that PP hormones will blow. So why not be as fit and healthy as I can, give myself a leg up at the end? Plus everyone says exercise during pregnancy is so good for you and LO, but it is WAY harder to get started than it is to keep going, and if 1st tri is hard on you you'll never start exercising!
AND being pregnant =/= being fat. You're not "ruining" it when you get KU, your body will be different but not "ruined". That's the saddest thought ever, it makes me sad to hear women equate creating a life with destruction of any kind

I'm also trying to drop about 10 lbs before GP (it was 15 back in January, so YAY for that!), and I agree that I'm really trying to focus on eating healthy so I'm in that rhythm when I AM KU, so it's less to think about. I also hope that if I'm in a healthy routine now, it'll be harder to have it derailed because I'm exhausted with the pregnancy. I'm also hoping to not follow my Mom's footsteps and balloon when pregnant.
I am also trying to lose weight. I fiqured if I get into the habit now, I will continue when I get KU. I try to get in 5 workouts in a week. I do Zumba and attempt to run.
My husband also has been losing weight and I too find a way to sneak in extra calories. I try to not keep too many snacks in the house except for healthy snacks.
