As a teacher I HATE HATE HATE the idea of ANY of us being in school with a gun. This has BAD IDEA written all over it and I'm terrified of what the result might be...
frkls your ETA is mostly what I'm afraid of... what happens if there's an accident; or what if a teacher flips their shit; or what if a kid manages to wrestle it away from the teacher; or, or, or....
There was a story on the news about having the principal be the one to have the gun and have it locked in their office. How does that make sense? Guns should not be carried by school staff.
Are there a lot of former-cops-turned-teachers? What an oddly selective population.
(I agree that the bill is bad news all around.)
according to the story, there are about 300 in TN. they're mostly cops turned criminal law teachers. but there is lots of talk that it's supposed to just be a first step and would open the door to teachers who are former military or otherwise certified
Ah, criminal law teachers makes more sense. I was picturing elementary school teachers, which seemed an uncommon career path.
