Yesterday our previous landlord agreed that when we brought the keys he would write us a check for the deposit. Now we have to go back tomorrow after he inspects the place. This place was covered in filth, had no blinds in the windows, and had stains all over the carpet when we moved in. This guy is totally going to try to pull one over on us because we didn't do a move in inspection which I regret. I'm not leaving without our full deposit after what I've had to deal with. He's asked my husband to do things that were illegal, which he obviously didn't oblige and alao the things he has done which i mentioned the other day. Today when we stopped by he saw our new, used car and said, "new car? I always did hate rich people." I've seriously had it with this guy. Any thoughts or advice for when I have to go over there without DH tomorrow and deal with him? I'm seriously stressed out over this.

Ugh. I wouldn't go by yourself honestly. But since you have to I'd have the local police department phone number set in your phone so you can call if you have to. He sounds like a real peach, I'm sure he and my crazy neighbor would get along great!
Without proof, I'm afraid you won't have much recourse. I'd definitely take along a witness, though. He sounds like the guy who could get really out of hand and pull a he said/she said.

I am a landlord. Check your state tenant law. In my state I have 1 month to return all or part of a security deposit. So, he may be horrible, but if you try to say that you're not leaving without the security deposit, he may be on solid legal standing to just ignore you.
I would wait and see what he does - if he tries to withhold more security deposit than what you think is fair you can pursue it in small claims court - but as you know, since you didn't do a move-in inspection, it will be tough to provide proof to the judge.
Before I even got out of the car the landlord was mobbing out of the garage with his hand up telling me to leave. He refused to talk to me even though my name is on the lease. He was super rude "get off my property" style and said he'd only do business with my husband because I wouldn't let him in the house the other day when he randomly showed up and accused me of lying about whether my husband was home or not. Damn right I wouldn't let you in the house. I don't let creepy men in my house when I'm home alone, landlord or not. I have just never trusted this guy. I told him I'd get my husband on the phone to talk to him if that would help because he was at work and that's why I stopped. At that point he told me he'd call the cops if I didnt walk off his property to make my phone call. My husband had to leave work to go get the check because our landlord is going out of town or some crap. I had a friend with me and she couldn't believe how this guy was acting. I'm seriously so glad we moved at this point.
Wow. I would have called the cops right back at him (at least, in my head). As long as you are the tenant he's actually the one trespassing. I'm glad you went with someone.
