Those of you who are my FB friends may have seen that 3 of my clients graduated high school today. I'm so proud of them all.
One of them was removed from his family at the beginning of the year, was in Juvenile Hall for a month or so, changed schools and districts, had to do more work, and still graduated on time. Another has been struggling with addiction and had to deal with terminating an unwanted pregnancy. She also may have been sexually assaulted recently. And she graduated on time despite all the stress that could've sidetracked her!
Another was running away, harming herself (cutting, trying to kill herself), and now is a positive role model, a leader, does foster youth advocacy, finished both semesters of her senior year with 4.0s, is pretty much the superstar of our campus, and gave a speech at the graduation thanking everyone. She mentioned me by name and title, then said that I'm awesome. I totally started crying.
There were over 100 people at the graduation for the 6 graduates. They all had so many people around them showing their love and support. It was an amazing, amazing day at work, with so much positivity around. I'm seriously so proud of all my kids. I had to share my awesome moments.
I love stories like this. I'm mentally high-fiving all those kids for accomplishing all that they have. And an extra high five for you for seeing them through!
