We have a Chihuahua/Dashchund mix and it seems like the older he gets the more he throws his back out. We usually have pain meds and a heating pad for when this happens.
No she was crying every few minutes in pain and sort of spinning into a new position. She hasn't done that in 10 minutes or so. She JUST put her head down and closed her eyes (but it probably won't last).
Hm. I asked because that seems to be one of the symptoms our pup has when he throws his back out. He also has a hard time laying down/finding a comfortable position. Have you tried a heating pad?
I'm sorry, it's scary when you can't tell what's wrong.
I'm sorry Swizz. I hope she feels better soon. Pepper dislocated her pelvis and was like this. My vet is an equine chiropractor and he was able to put it back for her.
It is scary. Now she's just sitting up staring off but her eyes are closing yet refuses to lay down. The crying seems less often but she's obviously still not feeling a lot better. Maybe there are better drugs...
What did they give her? Tramodol paired with gabapentin worked great for Pel. Metacam didn't do crap.
Our girl had a neck injury when she was younger. It was kind of the same situation. Lots of crying, tender to the touch, wouldn't lay down/couldn't get comfortable. It was kind of a long road of keeping her kennel-bound, but she has been in great shape ever since. This will pass and your pup will come out on the other side just fine. Keeping you all in my thoughts!
Hoping she feels better soon! My dog pulled his back leg muscle and was acting very similar. I gave him a 1/4 more of a tramadol that the vet recommended and that really helped.

Tramadol is what they gave her. First dose didn't seem to do anything, but the second seems to be helping a little more.
We just got back from the regular vet and they think its a pulled something or other in her hind leg, which is much better than a back/spine injury.
Basically we're just supposed to keep her calm and no jumping and see how things go.
Yeah, you won't really see the full effects of tramadol until after a few doses. Just to warn you, panting is a common side effect so don't worry if she pants like crazy for a few days.
