I was talking to my mom last night on the phone, and she said someone (who I knew) from her neighborhood had just listed their house - so she went to see the listing out of curiosity.
omg, guys. I checked it out on her tip. Without further ado,
So we start out fine:
and then shit gets real.
I swear on the Doggies Derkins that this kitchen is from the same listing as the rest of the house:
Dude. I can totally empathize with being partway through painting oak trim white. But FINISH BEFORE YOU LIST YOUR HOUSE!
While it's not pink, it still kind of hurts. I want to stage it for them!
aaaand, back to the pink.
Master suite:
It's a perfectly nice house, but I keep thinking how much less than asking I would be offering, based on the amount of carpet removal, wallpaper removal, etc. that needs to happen.
That kitchen rocks! The rest of the house is yep...straight out of the 80s. Scale that down by about 3/4s, remove the pink add some pale aqua and you have my inlaws house. My MIL I'm sure would tell you it looks great.
If I was listing it I would defiantly include a flooring allowance.
For real. But it isn't included in the listing!:

It's been a while since I've read one with quite so many meaningless superlatives, and that is so oblivious to flaws that maybe need some allowances. Nicest lots? Really? Nicer than the water front lots, and nicer than the lots that allowed for basements to be built? (Plenty of houses in the neighborhood have waterfront and basements; this house has neither.) lol.
Oh my...so much pink carpet. That house looks nicely kept but besides the very outdated decor it has too many styles and finishes. I don't mind a fan in a kitchen but the ORB does not work there. Also HATE the backsplash.
When we looked at houses back in 2004, we saw a lot of these "split personality" homes, where people had fabulous kitchens and the rest of the house was godawful.
Also, I don't think I'm ever again allowed to complain about someone else's dusty pink because I want to repaint our upstairs hallway to provide some punch (it's currently a light yellow, as is our entire foyer) and H keeps suggesting colors in the dusty pink family. Don't worry, I won't let that happen.
Wow! That blast from the past kind of reminds me of my aunt's house. My aunt and uncle are incredibly wealthy and (primarily) live in this gorgeous 6 (or 7?) bedroom colonial up in the northeast. When they bought in the late 80's the house was beautifully decorated. My aunt had professionals come in and do everything. Designer everything. Fast forward to when I was last there a few years ago.... and it was a blast from the past. Same wallpaper, same countertops, same everything for the most part. New washer/dryer and an updated TV in the main room, but that was it. The carpet was still pink going up the stairs. All still very clean, but very 80's.
I was so surprised! They can certainly afford to update it however they want to but I guess they just like it the way it is. The house without any updates is still worth well over 1.3m... but I do hope that if they ever do decide to move, that they update it. I would love to see how their gorgeous home looks with updates.
This could be my house when I moved in. Except mine is brick.
We've updated a lot of it, but there is still stuff to do. The mauve carpets are gone and the previous owners took the couches. Still working on the wallpaper in the guest and MBRs. By that time I get to it I suspect they'll be a trend again.
The house has good bones with mostly cosmetic issues. If the school district and area amenities are good, it's worth fixing.
You know what else I would change? The way the first floor shutters don'r "match" the cottage windows. The panels on the shutters should line up with the sash of the window.
