Our new house has an L-shaped kitchen, and eventually we are going to get new cabinets and maybe rearrange things.
While it woud be nice to wait to make decisions until we have lived in the space, we have a contractor there now, and the roof is being replaced, so it will cost less to have them drop in a line for gas (DH is talking about bringing in gas for a cooktop, eventually) or add some outlets/whatever now. We do have the ability to move the sink without too much trouble, since there is already plumbing on the other side of the wall that currently has the stove and fridge.
These are all mirror image from our kitchen layout. We do not have an island, but we qill likely have one in the future, for more workspace, storage and seating...no stove or sink. ETA: We have very little counter space next to the sink (or anywhere), so don't go by the drawings...they were all I could find to show the basic layouts.
There are no windows to consider. The wall opposite is all window, so you have face wall when you wash dishes, no matter where the sink is located.
Which do you have/prefer? Why? Any other ideas?
A. Current layout...we have a wall next to the fridge with a doorway tight there, and a wall/hall next to the dishwasher. The side with the sink and dishwasher is bigger in this drawing than our space is. we definitely don't have three and a half feet of counter space there. *sigh* I wish.
Layout one. Having the stove inbetween the sink and the fridge is convenient. My layout is similar to three and its sucky in many aspects. BFF has layout one and it works well. (it's xmaryrickx btw, I need to come back to the boards).

I was just thinking about last week! You do need to come back.
Why is your layout sucky? That is actually the one that appealed to me, in part because the fridge is what you would see from the doorway looking in from the living room, and it would be next to the hall with the door to the courtyard.

B for sure, because I would kill for long stretches of countertop, preferably next to the stove. I hate chopped up countertops, I want to be able to spread out.
I lurk To keep up on the happenings (your new house looks amazing!) but haven't had much time to post. I am going to be ramping up the decorating around here very soon so I will surely post more.
Our kitchen is very long (wall with the sink is about 25 feet) so I think that's part of it. There just seems to be a lot of running back and forth in my kitchen and I don't feel like I do that when I cook in bff's kitchen. The work space just seems more centralized.
I have a version of A and it works well for me. I like having the fridge closer to the stove/oven since I am in and out of it grabbing ingredients while I am cooking.

Mine similar to layout one it works great I don't have an island though but I like the layout. My only difference is the dishwasher was added later and its not by the sink so that annoying.
I guess that I should have drawn images to scale for our kitchen and set up exactly like I am thinking, since it seems like people are swayed by things that are in the drawings.
I just chose those for general ideas of which wall to locate things, not meant to be exact placement for them, since I can't stand appliances up against walls/corners, and we don't have that much counter space.
Our set up is kind of similar to A, but much closer and with a separate built-in pantry and some counter space behind the sink on an opposite wall. I like having the stove and fridge together because I can get in there quickly while I'm cooking, as well as put things back while I'm working. Easy access is nice. The sink being away from the fridge and stove wouldn't bother me as much as having the fridge on the opposite side of the room from where we're usually working (the stove and the counter next to it).
Ours is similar to A too and I love the functionality of it. I also like the sink by the window in my space as I like to have plants and herbs by my sink and also like looking out the window doing dishes. I also have a range hood and backsplash .
I like A but B is a good layout too. I wouldn't want to share the precious counter space between the sink and stove so C is out for me.
As far as what you see when you walk in a kitchen normally you want the stove with a nice hood as the focal point not the fridge. The fridge, wall ovens, or any other full height cabinet ideally wouldn't be on the main wall you see when you walk in because the solid wall of appliances/cabinets makes the space feel smaller. Countertops break things up nicely and stoves are especially nice because they sometimes don't have upper cabinets above them making the space feel more open. In a small kitchen you probably don't have that option though.
