I am working on my kids bedroom. They share a room, boy and girl. I am trying to keep it budget friendly. WDYT of what I have so far? I am not sure if I want to add other bold geometrics. They have green bean bags with white polka dots. Should I add some polka dots, chevron, anything? How would you incorporate it?
I like it, you could add wall art that would bring in the dots if you want to. Not sure of the age of the kids, but a collection of different sized round mirrors, a round white board / chalkboard / pinboard. If you want to do chevron you could do a mainly white curtain with varied width chevron at the bottom of the curtain, like 3 stripes, in the dark blue color.
How old are your kids? old enough to put up their artwork? If they are, get something to put up their own art and call it a day. Any more matchy matchy and it'll look too much like a showroom. I like what you have though!
I love the idea of decorating with their own artwork. A friend of mine hung picture molding, so art could be swapped out without nail holes. Another friend hung a wire and used clothes clips to hang her older son's tee shirt collection.
Thanks guys. I like the idea of their artwork. I have tubs overflowing with it. I was trying for a good coordinating base. I think the artwork will help add their personality to their "side" of the room.
They are 4 and 5. I already have the beds and dressers. I agree they can seem nursery-like. That is why I was going with more bright colors vs pastels in hopes of toning that down. The only other option was dark brown wood and I am getting tired of it, I have a house full of balck/brown wood.
I have two windows in the room, am I crazy to do white curtains with kids? They already have white roller shades. Would navy be too dark? Should I bring in another color?
I agree with pp. Once you have the kids in there and toys, you will have plenty of pattern. I would have a couple of places where you can display art and change it out and call it a day. I love the colors. My boys are sharing a room now and we are going lighter and brighter too in there.

I would do white lampshades instead of the green/pink ones. Those colored ones seem to "baby" to me and I think the pillows add the colors you want.
I like white roman shades or curtains. Roman shades are often out of the way more in a kids room. I have ugly shades in my kids room, but haven't changed those out on the 3 windows yet. You could do navy striped curtains to match the comforters. Sort of like these, only navy. These are actually walmart tablecloths hung as curtains, but you get the idea.
But if you go with white lampshades and white curtains, maybe some fun pillows like these instead of those other ones:
Oh and as for other art or decorations, I just added clip boards to my boys' room last year. They (or really I) change out the art routinely to match what they bring home from school or the season. It's fun and breaks up the wall. I found 10 cheap clipboards and picture hangers at the dollar store, so for $11, I got art for a full 15-foot wall. Sort of like this...
Plus, we just got a cool map at Costco to frame. Like this one...
But I think this art is even more fun for a kids room - especially vintage posters:
I think the room is too feminine for a boy. I mean, depending on how long you're planning to keep it like that. You could do pink on the girl's side of the room only, but even with that the combination of the white furniture and the pink in the area rug eliminates the gender-neutral aspect of the room, IMO. I think that by the time your son is about 7 or 8, he's going to start complaining.
I agree with this. The room seems girly to me. I would nix the pink.
