Waaaa! I don't know why I assumed all regular depth refrigerators have the same depth. I didn't bother to check the new fridge's depth (just the height) because I thought all regular depth fridges would have the same depth.
Well, they don't. So now the fridge at the new house is sticking out ~2in since it's 2.5in deeper than the typical regular depth fridge.
It sucks! H thought maybe we can have the cabinet maker add a piece to cover the 2in that's sticking out. Thoughts???

It doesn't bother me that much, especially since the visible side is the one in the kitchen. However, I can see how it would be annoying for sure. I second your H - see if there's something the cabinetmaker can do.
The cabinets were designed to make the fridge look like counter-depth and no sticking out part. I opened the doors all the way and covering the 2in won't cause any issues. I originally thought they left it sticking out because of the doors. Nope, it's because it's 2.5in deeper than the other models (this fridge just came out when I was looking).
I pay more attention maybe because I designed the kitchen? The cab maker and I went through each of the cabinet dimensions. We made the base cabinets on that wall to be 28.5in so the countertop (with it's overhang) will be in-line with the fridge cabinet.
I wish I can return or exchange the fridge. Uggh! Why? Because adding a piece to cover the 2in would still bug me.

That does suck. Since you can't return the fridge, I think I'd just live with it. I think it would look weird to add another piece of wood that stuck out further than the counter and then what would you do up top above the fridge?
And we have a rental that needs a skinny fridge and ran into something similar when buying a new one...the new one gave dimensions that were 2" smaller online b/c I didn't notice that was without the handle?! Crazy.
I ran into this when we updated our kitchen. The new refrigerator sticks out 3 inches more than our old one. It still bothers me after 6 years. Kicking my self for not getting a cabinet depth one.
We have this and while it bothered me at first, I am used to it by now and don't even notice. I'm sorry, though, because I do remember how irritated I was in the beginning!
I still would always choose a bigger fridge. I have a smallish one and I can't keep much in it at all. It's very hard to entertain with my small fridge.
The size difference is not much. The older model is 28.5 cu ft. The new one I bought is 31.6 cu ft. The smaller would have been fine with me if I knew the 31.6 would be sticking out. Ugh! Oh, and we'll have our current fridge in the garage + a deep freezer in our pantry. So space is not really an issue.
We exchanged our regular depth refrigerator for a counter depth one for precisely this reason In fact, it looks like you may have the same refrigerator as us. Cost us something like a $400 restocking fee, plus the increase in price for counter depth. But it bugged us that much, so I feel you. Why can't you return it?
Lowe's delivered it like 5mos ago? Although it hasn't been used, I doubt I can return/exchange it. Besides, the fridge typically cost ~$3000 (+/- $200) and I got ours at a special sale time for $1900. I can't even get the smaller one (the 28.5 cu ft) for that price at this time which are currently on sale for $2600.
What's the lifespan of a fridge? LOL. Maybe buying a new one later is a better option.
UGH. I feel your pain, because that would bother me. Find out if the cabinet guy can fix it and how much it would cost...I imagine they would have to change out the cabinet for one that matches the depth...ot...take that one, put it in the garage as an extra (it was on sale anyway!!) and get a new one. LOL.
I have to admit that would probaly drive me crazy as well. Since you got such a good deal on it, and for all intents and purposes it's practically new could you try to Craigslist it? Really sell the point Lowe's is currently selling it for $3,000 and we are selling for $1,900. Even link to the model on the Lowe's site. It wouldn't hurt to try... The few applicances we've sold on CL have been super popular items.
Craigslist sounds like a great idea. Why didn't I think about that? I should have posted about this earlier when I was told the fridge can't be pushed farther in.
At this point, it's too late to try to sell it. H plans for us to start living in the house this weekend with our minimum stuff then the movers will move everything mid-week next week. I doubt I can convince H to deal with getting rid of the fridge and getting a new one.
I would list it for what you paid and see what happens. If you aren't taking a loss, would your h be mad?
I think his main problem would be the hassle involved and timing. On timing, I'm not sure he would agree with the idea of replacing without having sold current fridge. And i dont feel comfortable with this idea either. What if we won't find any buyer? Then we'll be stuck with a fridge. So selling before getting buying within a week sounds impossible. I'll see what he says though.
