Blake's temp is 99.5, he has a dry cough, is inconsolable, and is only 5 weeks old. His cousins ave RSV and pneumonia now. I have calls in to Jeff's pedi aunt and the answering service at Blake's pedi, but no one has called me back. I just gave him tylenol
If I didn't hear back within a half hour and his temp doesn't drop, then I would. It is always better safe than sorry. Good luck and please keep us updated.

I personally would wait for a call back. But I honestly think if you feel in your gut he should go and get checked out now, then you should go. I hope its not RSV or anything - poor Blake! And poor Momma - its so scary and hard watching your baby get sick!
I probably wouldn't rush out. As long as he isn't having laboured breathing or anything like that. Hopefully your pedi calls back soon. My guideline says a temp of 99.9 lasting over 2 hours to take them in.
With his cousins being sick, I would take him in. Edie had RSV about a month ago and the coughing turned into wheezing so quickly, it was scary. Poor Blake, feel better soon!

Does he have any signs of labored breathing? If his temp spikes higher or if he has any new concerning symptoms, I'd go in. I'd wait for a call back first though.

I'd try to hang on for the call back, and monitor his temp and breathing in the meantime. If his temperature doesn't come down after awhile or rises, I'd definitely go then. Same if his breathing changes. I hope they call back as quickly as possible! Poor sweet, Blake, hang in there, Carey!
I hope they call you back soon so you can have some answers. I would wait for a call back for at least a little bit but if you don't hear anything and anything gets worse I'd go in.
I got a call back and she said to take him in at 100.4 and that the coughing could be from reflux since it is dry. Jeff just ran out and bought a rectal thermometer and it was down to 98.6, so I think I am just being really paranoid since his cousins are all sick.

Poor baby. I'm glad you got a normal rectal temp. Five week olds are notorious for being inconsolable which makes it hard to determine if something is truly wrong. Reflux is a bitch...although obviously not as serious as RSV. Hope he doesn't have reflux struggles. You're doing great, mama!
I would wait. In the baby world it's not a fever till 100.5+. Have you tried the 5 S's? Shush, swaddle, swing... I forget the other two? I'm sorry I hope he feels better!!

This is good news Carey. Newborns are so stressful! it's hard not to get worked up, I know. You are doing a great job. How is the BFing going? are you still nursing?
(sorry I've been gone and missed a lot of updates!)

Thanks girl! I am pretty much eping because he just wasn't getting full at the tap. I have still been putting him on occasionally during the day, but he usually ends up taking a bottle right after.
