My brother has a coop and 6 chickens, they used to lay eggs in flower pots on the back porch but he finally got them to lay them in their coop. They are allowed to roam around the yard, sometimes they end up, up the street, but no one bothers them. He has had all of his killed before by an animal, but sometimes that just happens. It's sad but it happens. Chickens LOVE to follow people around, they're like tiny dogs with feathers. When we were home over Easter, we were doing an outdoor egg hung with plastic eggs. The chickens pecked open the plastic eggs and I spent most of the time carrying a chicken around. Why? Because I can.
These pictures are huge, sorry!!
Chicken coop/duck coop. The duck's cannot come out yet because they are still too scared of people.
Chickens.
And snortie the pig! She is like an over grown dog, she will follow you all around the outside of her pen. She also snorts a ton. She had a friend but my Brother turned her into a pig roast.
He is keeping his chickens for egg purposes, the ducks are just because, and the pig he isn't sure yet. He was going to butcher her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. He wants a cow though.
I love going home to visit because of the animals. He also has duck eggs that are going to be hatching soon.

(wilted)
I know. =( I didn't go home when he did that because I didn't want to see it/be around it. After seeing a pig's personality, it is SO incredible hard to see them turned into food. Same with chickens, it is amazing how much personality they have.
I live on a small farm and there are about 6 horses that live on the farm next door. There used to be cows too. The horses and cows would come up to the fence when we walked the dogs. When they weren't out I would worry that they got eaten but all 3 were still alive when the guy moved them to another barn.
I don't have any but I would love a potbelly pig and DH wants chickens.
Awww I love Snortie!! I met a pig named Norman when I was in NOLA last week. He was just cruising down Magazine street with his owner. I am pretty sure I need a pig now.
I love the pig!!! I wish I could have a pig, goat, and some ducks, but we live on 1/2 acre in the burbs, so that's not going to happen. I do have four hens, though! Well, I did. These four died and I'm about to replace them.
This is Egghead, Eggdrop, Omelet, and Chicken Noodle.
I want a chicken coop soooo badly, but we have a lot of fox's. I think our dog might help keep them away, but I'm not sure. Our next door neighbor is a farm and they have 3 horses, a donkey, 2 steer and dozens of goats. The horses and donkey pasture up to our property line, so we get to pet and feed them carrots sometimes! They are big horses, used for pulling competitions. Sorry the picture is so big, this is the first time I've posted one!
We're allowed to have chickens in town, but H won't let me. I love getting fresh eggs from our friends though!
One day I said to DH, "Hey so I just spent $300 on a chicken coop on Ebay and we need to drive a couple hours to go pick it up this weekend." And he was like WTF (huh) And then the following weekend we drove another 2 hours each way to a farm because I wanted a very specific breed of chicken at a specific age. We put them in the car in a cardboard box with holes poked in it, and then DH insisted we go through the Zaxby's drive through on the way home, even though he felt a little guilty eating his chicken fingers with our pet chickens in the car. LOL. He's a good sport to put up with me.
I hear that pigs can be housebroken, and that you can even teach them to sit and do other tricks just like dogs. Anyone know if that is true? Because I totally want a little piggie that will follow me around the house.

I've heard pigs are actually very smart and can be housetrained and actually be good pets. But, they have dominate personalities, so you have to assert yourself early on or they will try to take over.
I would love to have chickens. My H buys fresh eggs every week from a guy he works with who has a farm and they are so delicious.
Little pigs (like the one honey boo boo has) and pot belly pigs can be trained. I'm sure you could train the kind my brother has, but I don't know. Those stone slabs in the pig's pen? She flings them all around with her snout! And if you get too close, she tries to eat your pants. Pigs are cute.
I would recommend anyone who wants to try taking care of chickens to try silky chickens. They are VERY friendly, they are small, and they are adorable. They do lay eggs, but they are small. lol.

We had a pot-bellied pig as a pet when we were growing up. My Dad was a sucker who couldn't say no to anything. Our pig was named Ziggy (we also had a horse named Marley at the time) Ziggy lived inside, ate 1 cup of piggie pellets a day, used a litter box, and cuddled with the dogs. We never put a lot of effort to teach him anything besides coming when called, and to kennel, but the woman we got him from had her pigs trick trained. He was pretty awesome, but I don't have a big desire to own one again. He had foamy slobber that he's shake all over when he got excited, and he was pretty loud. There was always little oinks, squeals and snorts around.

they can be litter box trained! pigs are really smart and learn things pretty easily. we had a pot bellied pig when i was a teenage that walked on a leash, was house trained, and liked to ride.

They are so cute!! My mom was a kindergarten teacher and hatched chicks and ducklings in her classroom, so they usually came home with us once the school year ended. I found the ducks to be much sweeter than the chickens. I'd love to have some ducks but we live in a condo complex with a shared yard
I want to put a chicken coop in the back yard. SO says no no no. He wants no animals that can't come with us when we go camping. When I pointed out that we have a pet mouse who doesn't come with us, it didn't help.
Awww, they're cute! Especially Snortie. My grandpa had chickens and ducks for a long time. They would get eaten by raccoons and foxes and such no matter what he did to prevent it. But it was fun growing up. We would help feed them and such when we were at their house. Now he raises peacocks. I used their feathers in my wedding. I think he was really proud.
