So, Dot has to go to the vet today for follow-up. For the last three days, Hobbes has been acting sickly and lethargic, so I called today to get an appointment for him. And the vet girl was all "can you just bring them both at the same time?" I was all breezy and no problem, but now that I think about it, WTH was I thinking? Wrangling a 30-lb dog who doesn't like to walk into the vet on her own and a 20-lb cat who feels like crap and is therefore the same consistency as a sack of chicken feed? Ugh.
I need hair pets and poor poodles, please. UPDATE:
He took a turn for the worse last night, so we dropped him off at the vet this morning for consideration of surgery. The vet just called - surgery is contraindicated because he's in acute pulmonary and cardiac failure. His lungs are full of fluid and they're not sure he's going to make it, but they're going to try.

Update: Vet visit went ok. Hobbes was pretty out of it, so he was easy to manhandle, and Dot was as well-behaved as she could be. BUT Hobbes has an impaction in his small intestine. We're going to try conservative treatment first (consisting of sub-q fluids), but if not he'll need surgery. Seriously, again?
(I'm not sure if there's anyone around who remembers our first Hobbes surgery ... involving a cat in a onesie. Anyone?)
I'm glad you made it though but am sorry Hobbes may need to have surgery. Hopefully teh conservative treatment will help work things out.
I know you didn't mean it to be funny, but OMG, I just literally LOLed. I hope so too.
When I wrote it, I LOL'd to myself and was going to put it in italics but thought no one else would get my 3rd grade humor. Glad it made you LOL after a rough day!
Poor Hobbes! Glad the vet visit went alright with both of them, and I do hope you don't have to go the surgery route. Hobbes does looks sufficiently adorable in the onesie though
The one time my husband took both dogs to the vet (only Alice needed to see the doc really quick to remove some stitches), Charlie cried the whole time she was gone from his side. Any other time, he acts like she's a nuisance he has to suffer through.

There's a video, emoflamingo, which was taken the very first time I put it on him. It's a little graphic (his surgery scar was pretty righteous) and involves me looking and sounding less-than-intelligent (OMG, R - why didn't you tell me to spit out my gum b/c I was chewing like a cow and talking like a valley girl???)
To sum up the video: basically, he bit me a lot, then I put him on the floor and he just basically flopped over like he was dead. Then he got up and started staggering around like a drunk, with several more very dramatic pratfalls onto his side/back. It's pretty hilariously awesome.
I take 2 cats and 6 dogs to the vet once every 3 years for their rabies shots. I also have my kids with me. I take the cats inside and the vet is nice enough to come to the truck to take care of the dogs.
