What do you put on LOs feet when you go outside? So far, J has been wearing socks only, but he likes to take them off, plus they don't seem to protect his feet when he's pulling up on stuff on the playground. Any recommendations for shoes or protective footwear?
K wears shoes since he was a wee lad. I like shoes with laces or velcro so I can pull them tight. Right now he is wearing a few different converse sneakers and has 2 pairs of loafers. We do robeez too but they are fugly so only when we practice walk or go to the baby gym.
Go for Robeez - they are hard for them to pull off, and they are very good for learning to walk (they should be barefoot, but Robeez type shoes are the next best). E is a full walker and he still wears Robeez most days.

I was doing Robeez but the elastic digs in to Ari's fat feet, lol. I bought some cheepo shoes at payless but now that Ari is cruising seriously and only a few days away from walking (if I had to assume) I think we will invest in some stride rite shoes. I did buy See Kai's off zulily but I ordered a size 4 and 5. Turns out my kid is only a 2.5, oops!
The pediatrician (and a PT blogger I read) advise to minimize shoes on developing walkers until walking is well-established. DCP requires them for outdoors so we send a pair of those Stride Rite level 2 shoes for when they're outside and keep a pair of leather soft-soles (like Robeez rip-offs) for when the teachers want them inside. We pretty rarely any shoes on her ourselves but would use the soft-soled if we did.
She just wears socks but she leaves them on, she doesn't pull them off. We haven't spent that much time outside as its still only 40 degrees out here!!
We still have summer so mine is barefoot right now. His feet get dirty but so does the rest of him, hands, knees etc so I just try not to freak out with varying degrees of success

Baby shoes give me anxiety.
They were giving me anxiety too! M stands and is almost walking but not quite, only a few steps so far. When he is outside lately, I've been putting him in the fake crocs that we got at the used baby store. I didn't want to spend $ on new ones because he's not really walking yet but he seems to really like them. He brought them over to me today and "asked" me to put them on him. My friend's toddler will barely let anyone take hers off and they've been the only shoes she wears. I was concerned because they are hard-soled but they are still squishy enough that he seems to understand how to walk in them better than the converse he has. I was going to get soft leather baby shoes but just haven't had a chance to buy them yet. It's been all socks and barefoot until the last few weeks or so. Although that's not entirely true because when it was really cold here (ha - sorry - I mean California cold), I had boots for him but he didn't really walk in them. Anyway, so far so good! I have read that you're supposed to let them learn how to walk as barefoot as possible. This is really only for when he is outside for short amts of time so I think it's fine :/ He's still barefoot or socked most of the time.
