Do a RNP and a bouncer serve the same purpose? Wondering which one I should register for...or if I should put both on my registry.
ETA: I already have a swing (borrowed from a friend) and I'm trying to be a minimalist when it comes to baby gear. Our house isn't huge and I hate clutter.
My mother and sister insist that I need a vibrating infant seat, a swing AND a rock and play. I'm hoping I don't get all three because OMG plastic containment devices! But I don't have a kid so who knows. I figure throw it all on there. It's not your money. Someone bought me an $80 diaper pail today, hurray!

We have all three and they kind of serve different purposes...Little HB slept in the RnP (okay, still does sometimes). She naps in the swing (we keep it downstairs), and sits in the vibrating seat near the bathroom while we get ready for work.
I don't think the seat and the RnP would serve the same purpose--RnP is pretty exclusively sleep, and she doesn't sleep in the seat...

If you have the room, I think it helps to have a variety since some babies love a certain thing and hate another. Also I'm the person with two bumbo seats, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
A bouncer is where I place a wake baby (they often have toys) and a swing/RNP is where I'd put a baby to sleep.
We had both a bouncer and a swing. Baby 2 sleep in the swing a lot and would tolerate the bouncer for brief periods (as long enough to eat a sandwich or run the bathroom). The swing was far more critical. I could have place my kid in a highchair to run to the bathroom since ours reclined but the toys were helpful. Even though we had small place we had a lot of baby junk -- swing, bouncers, jumpers, etc. I have 2 highchairs now (my kid is 20 months). He sits in one and watches a show in the AM while the nanny does dishes and eats at the other. Even as 20 months he really needs to be contained if you leave the room and a bouncer doesn't really work for a kid as big as mine. We could use just one but the second one was a free hand me down and it is nice not to move them around.
A lot of this goes away after a year so I wouldn't worry about it. You just live with it. I've given 90% of the baby stuff away. When my kid turns turns 2 or so we'll give away the FP laugh and learn play house and a box of "baby" toys and that will be the last of it. We're still drowning in kid stuff though. It is just different kid stuff.
We didn't use the RNP as a sleeping place (we had the ARCS), but DH preferred it for living room hanging out to the bouncer because DD was more elevated - so he could interact with her more easily. Of course the bouncer has toys on it for her to interact with, which is nice...but you could probably put a toy arch on the RNP.
we used both a bouncer, RNP and swing, every single day for the first 5 months or so. RnP was in our bedroom and she slept in it overnight. Bouncer and swing were in the living room and she napped in both. She usually fell asleep in the swing and if we transferred her to the bouncer would sleep longer than if we left her in the swing for her nap. She also hung out in the bouncer when she was awake and we were in the kitchen or playing the piano for her, etc.
the RnP and swing were gifts, I got the bouncer cheap at a consignment sale.
We just have a bouncy seat, with no plans to get anything else at this point. We have a PnP that he'll sleep in next to our bed. We had a PnP and a swing with our older kids, but they never liked the swing, so we ditched it.
Think about every room where you might want a place to set your baby down while you do things. Then think about how bulky baby stuff is, and how you wouldn't want to transfer items from room to room.

We received the rnp, bouncer, and swing all on our registry. We have plenty of room,so no big deal. We use all Dailey. She sleeps in her rnp every night, but doesn't really want to sit in it awake. She like to sit awake in her bouncer, she wiggles around and likes sitting more upright than the swing or bouncer. It's nice to put her in there while I'm working on stuff , showering , ect. We use the swings for naps and she likes swinging awake as well.

RNPs weren't around when my kids were infants (or at least weren't popular). We do have a bouncer, a swing, a PNP that vibrates, and both a jumperoo and exersaucer for when they were a bit older. We used them all for different reasons. Baby containment devices were essential for that first year.
The thing is, you don't really know what your kid will like until he/she's here.
We have a lot of space for storage in our house and I don't mind baby shit all over so we have a swing, bouncer, RNP, and now a jumperoo and Bumbo. I like having a place to set him in every room of the house--swing was in our front room, bouncer in the family room, RNP (now the PNP) in the master suite, jumperoo in the kitchen, etc.
C pretty much hated the swing and bouncer but would tolerate the RNP. It was great for me to put him in there to shower and such, and I loved that I could drag it all over.
DS used and often napped in this guy from coming home to just shy of 6mo:
until he was able to flip himself up and over backwards. So that is now kaput.
And then we got one of these:
and he uses this often. We also have a doorway jumper, and he likes it, but we keep taking it back off the frame because the only door that has a sill is in the kitchen doorway, so it is often in the way!
We also have a swing and we prob used it a handful of times. DS just wasn't interested in it.
We had a bouncer and Mamaroo and DD rarely used either of them (Mamaroo more). She slept in the RnP for the first 6-7 weeks. If you only want to register for one, I vote RnP. But I don't think it would be bad to register for both.
You probably don't NEED any of them, but it is nice to have a place to put the baby other than on a blanket on the floor. And it's good to have options. We've never had a RnP, so I can't speak to it. We didn't get our bouncy/ vibrating seat until kid #2. It's nice to have, but not a must. The swing isn't really portable, so there's that to think about. Basically, if you don't want "all" the containment devices, don't get them. It's NBD. Baby can totally hang out on a blanket on the floor while you cook, use the bathroom, shower, etc.
