tell me about it. I have never been. Now I'm thinking we'll go this weekend because I want to buy her the rocking bull and paying shipping for things makes me ragey. Also we could do with at least looking at furniture for the future.
So:
1. Is their quality good, medium or really shitty? 2. How are their cribs if you have one? 3. Is it really overwhelming going there, I assume they are huge and probably hard to not get distracted. How long do you usually spend there? 4. Recommendations of particular products/stuff you bought there? 5. most of their things require assembly. But is it actually easy to assemble or is it like that episode of futurama where there are always parts missing?!
And random things you want to add about IKEA.
we'd be going to the one in MA, stoughton I believe it is. Maybe an hour from us.

If you value life, do not go on the motherfucking weekend. Or get there right when they open.
1. I'd say the quality is medium to good. Depends on what you're getting, though 2. n/a 3. If you know what you want, you can get in and out fast. If you want to wander around, you could be in there for fucking ever. 4. We have the Expedit bookcase, Ektorp sofa, Björna table, Norden benches for the table, a Pax closet, a Hemnes bed and various other things. 5. I've rarely had parts missing, but the shit can be frustrating to put together.
It overwhelms the shit out of me but I love the place. Quality to price ratio is very good. You do have to assemble it but I find the assembly easy and they instructions are good, and the little man on them is funny.
We have a million things from them and so far we like everything. Poang chair in adult and kid, expedit storage things, kid table and chair, desk, pots and pans, down comforter. I would seriously buy everything there if we had one a bit closer!
I think some if the stuff is pretty nice, like the hemmes collection, but some of the stuff is pretty cheap. I purchased a coffee table for about $20 while I was in school, it looked cheap but it held up well enough. We have a gate leg table that I love, perfect for small apartments.
We have the gulliver crib, I like it. It's a simple no frills white crib, it was around $100, and I won't be upset if G chews on it.
DH puts everything together and doesn't seem to think it's too difficult. The table and 4 chairs was a 2 beer job, he can put the crib together in about 15 minutes.

I can't answer all your questions but it is worth the trip! Gosh, I miss living near an Ikea! I find their quality to be medium. IMO, their stuff won't last you forever but it's not Walmart quality furniture. You might find yourself overwhelmed but it's a good feeling of being overwhelmed... If that makes sense? They have so many crazy awesome little things. Like, I got spice racks for $4, painted them, and made them book racks for Colin! (see picture) I love the random and cool things they have so I am jealous you get to go!!

Quality ranges from shitty to pretty good. It's overwhelming on the weekends but I fucking love ikea! I love how its set up like little rooms. I always feel like "OH MY GOSH look what I can do to a 4x4 space!!"
I was just looking at their "kid room" ideas on the website and I feel even more shitty now about her crappy plain white room with a crib. I think we should go to ikea, and as it is set up like rooms right? so can you just pick a room and say "we'll take it"?!!!
For quality, its not like solid wood shit. That's what I would love to buy but that stuff is expensive so we limit our solid wood stuff. I think it's good with a kid cause Ada bites, hits and whacks everything.
I love IKEA. Weekends there SUCK. But, I have one about 10 minutes away, so it's easy for me to go during non-crazy times.
It will take you twice as long to go through as you think you will. Make that three times as long if you're going on a weekend.
The quality of their stuff is good for the price. I'm especially a fan now that we have a kid. We got a new coffee table from there when Andrew decided that banging toys on it was the most fun ever. (We used to have a glass one) I don't have to worry about stuff getting messed up because we bought it for him. We bought it with the intention of it getting messed up.
I LOVE putting IKEA stuff together. Seriously, it's a disease. My husband is NEVER allowed to do it, or even help. The instructions are pretty easy to follow. If I'm putting something together with a TON of steps, I just grab a pen and cross off steps as I go. It helps me keep track of where I am in the process.
We have shelving units, the coffee table, a desk, and a bunch of other stuff from there. I would say that the best bang for your buck is the stacking cups and the kid plates/bowls.
Do it, Do it, Do it. Stoughton is so not far from me at all. I would totally stalk your ass but I'll be in NY (but not close enough to any of my NYC lovelies, unfortunately).
I've been there twice I believe, it can definitely be overwhelming, but so much fun too. Good luck!!
Their cheap stuff is cheap and their more expensive stuff like the hemnes line is pretty good quality. I find the more expensive lines to be more of a pain in the ass to assemble. Our apartment is about 80% Ikea. We had to furnish our two bedroom apartment from nothing. We hired some guys off task rabbit to assemble it all. I don't know if that's just a NYC thing. Ikea shipping is $99 flat rate so its only worth it if you don't have a car and are ordering a ton of stuff.
I'm going to be there Sat! DH and I will be down that way for a wedding Friday and plan to stop in for a "quick" trip before coming home but really it will be crazy busy and take forever.
I think they're quality is good but it does depend on what you get. Some of their stuff is really flimsy. The majority of our house is Ikea - our whole bedroom set (Hemnes), our living room end table, 95% of our lighting, a lot of dishes and tableware and Lincoln's high chair. Their cribs are nice, my friend has one for her son and loves it. Assembly is easy but the bulkier furniture takes a bit of work. You'll definitely need to devote a few hours in order to get through the whole store.

For cribs check out the Gulliver. It gets rave reviews in the designy nursery world for its clean modern lines and accessible price point. $99 I think..
see what I really need is for someone to take away our baby and let us browse for 4 hours. When hubby gets bored he can go eat meatballs and cinnamon rolls and fall asleep while I look at kitchen utensils! I love kitchen utensils.

They have a playground babysitting daycare thing for older kids. We've never taken H there but it is an option.
I love Ikea. We have a lot of Ikea furniture. The particle board stuff can be cheap, but the solid pine stuff is decent. We've got a Hemnes set in our room and Owen has an Ikea crib. It only has 2 mattress settings, but I have no complaints about it.
Meatballs an lingonberry sauce is where it's at. Sometimes we just go for dinner (and picture frames).
I'm with muppet in loving assembling their stuff. I was happy/sad when H surprised me by assembling all the nursery furniture. I was sort of looking forward to doing it.

You will love it then! They have just about anything you can think of. Some of it is pretty good quality and the prices are really nice. I have a bunch of their Pyrex casserole dishes, random utensils...love it all! I also like that it looks sort of modern in the way it's designed...haha!
I love IKEA - we go to the Stoughton one all the time. In the winter we sometimes take the kids there just for fun ( H LOVES it - he runs around and tries out all the furni0utre and then eats meatballs). We have the kids easel, gulliver table and chairs, etc. and they have held up SO well with 5 years of kiddo destruction. We also have some patio chairs that have held up well, and their kitchen accessories are great. $1 for a collander - I'll take it!
Basically you follow the arrows through the different areas - some of which are set up as rooms, some just have all different desk options, etc. When you see something you like you write down the aisle and bin # from the tag, and then you pick up the boxed item from the correct aisle/bin right before you check out (if that makes sense). The "marketplace" stuff (kitchen things, lamps, tecxtiles, small shit) you just throw in your cart as you see it.
Definitely go either late afternoon or right when it opens. If you go at noon on Saturday you are insane.

1. Medium. 90% of our furniture is from there. Our bed frame collapsed on us one morning when H was getting out of bed. All of our other stuff has held up well. 2. n/a 3. Yes dear god in heaven. There's so much STUFF. If you don't go in with a strict budget or shopping list you will walk out with so much more than you expected. You can spend hours there if you aren't careful. 4. Don't get a bed frame. Like I said, ours collapsed after just a few years, and the same has happened to friends of ours. 5. I have never had missing parts and I almost never look at the directions anymore, I can usually whip things together without them they're so straightforward.
Make sure you take a big car/SUV/Truck. You don't want to get stranded because you couldn't fit your purchases in your car. Go first thing in the morning or during the week.
I just about to say this! I got a thing of tealights once and the manual was ridiculously funny. A picture of a guy wearing clogs with an 'X' over it. A picture of a baby on a table with an 'X' over it. A picture with a tea kettle on a candle with an 'X' over it...lol what? Don't use while wearing wooden shoes? Don't use while resting your baby on a table? Don't make your tea over it? ok!
I love ikea though, I could get lost in there for hours. We just recently bought all new bedroom furniture from the Hemnes line and I love it. The price reflects the quality for some things, but you can find amazing deals also. You will never be able to find an awesome area rug for $20 anywhere else
I love IKEA, but the first time we went we spent HOURS there. You can totally get lost wandering around. And you will want to buy everything. The quality is pretty good for the price and it's easy to put together.
