How long did it take for your kid to figure it out? E is just not cool with a sippy - he has had one occassionally for water before. He gets it and how to use it, its just not his thing. Since we started attempting to lose the bottle a few days ago he has taken MAYBE 2 ounces from it. For the whole day. (I do still give him a bedtime bottle because I am a sucker). He was previously taking 20-28 ounces a day. We are also transitioning to milk, but gradually, so at this point it is just a tiny bit of milk mixed in his formula, so I don't think that is the issue (and he takes the mix fine in his bedtime bottle). We have tried it all - straws, soft spot, hard spot, etc etc etc. He is driving me nuts! He also is being super picky with his food - he basically only wants blueberries and cheese. Sigh.
So, anyone else? How long before they finally gave in and realized the sippy is not evil?
(by the way. I think H did the same thing, but I have repressed all memories of it and have no idea what we did)
we still haven't figured it out yet. He will take sips of water but not enough to consume ounces. He prefers the straw to sippy but still we aren't able to transition yet.
k gets the sippy but not the kind with the straw. he will suck the water down but he refuses to hold the cup on his own and doesn't get he is supposed to tip his head back. I need to force it more but i don't. daycare says he drinks out of it fine but i need to ask if they hold it or if he does it on his own.

Same with us. Evan will drink from the straw sippy for a few sips but he quickly loses interest. He also lets water/milk dribble out of his mouth. He's been doing this for a month or two now.
We're in this boat too. He'll sip from a straw, but won't drink enough to replace a bottle. I'm just going to stick with the bottles for awhile longer and reevaluate in a couple months. I'm hoping his coordination will improve and he'll either 'get' the regular sippys, or else we can transition to real cups.
We haven't tried the straw sippy yet. She is on a trainer cup and drinks a decent amount from it, but it typically dribbles down her chin and onto her shirt. I'm scared to switch from bottles becaase it's going to be a mess with milk.
Mine doesn't consume much from a sippy, she still takes 3 bottles at daycare and when she's in the toddler room, no more bottles apparently. Not sure how its going to work! Maybe if she is not allowed a bottle she will be motivated? I don't think it will go well for them but we will see...

Today, one day short of his birthday, he likes it. In the past, I'd pull it out and try to get him to use it. He could take it or leave it. No real interest. I'd put it away for a couple of weeks and try again. We pulled it out today and he loves it. I'm not sure if putting it away helped us or not, but it made it less frustrating.

R would drink water from a sippy all day long, but milk forget about it. We started trying around 13 months and she was 15 or 16 months when she finally started drinking more than a couple oz a day. Then suddenly she couldn't get enough. We tried a bunch of different ones, too, the only one she would take milk from was a Gerber one which I can still only find at the grocery store. So random.
