I wouldn't do it. You have no guarantee of finding a new job. Vegas is an awful place to live and Austin is not the main office, but you currently live in an awesome location. Stay put.
We'd want to live in the downtown areas. We live in a studio in a high rise right now, and we like that style of living. No yard work for us! H's job would be 3 miles from the Strip in LV, right in downtown in Austin.
Google the address of the office and look at the images of the surrounding area. Most of the area around the strip are not so nice. Everything "nice" is in the outlying areas such as Henderson, North Las Vegas, etc.. From what I hear most of the locals prefer to live and work in the burbs and only head to the strip when friends or family are in town. As in they avoid heading to that area unless they have to.

Our problem is that he doesn't have much growth potential here and I'd be lying if I said my career would make us any more then I do at the moment in Denver. I could telecommute for a while but I'm sure my boss would rather have a physical employee after a while.
We want to move around and have adventures before we settle down and have kids. Our goal is to move to LA or NYC, which is possible in H's career in the short term. We're 26 and 28 yrs old, so finding our forever place isn't our goal right now.
DH just emailed her to set up the interview with Austin. We'll see if he gets a final offer after that.
I'm a Texas girl, spent close to 8 years in Austin, moved from Austin to Las Vegas 2.5 years. I hope to get back to Texas someday, but I actually love Las Vegas.
Las Vegas suburbs are just like everywhere else. Living in Las Vegas is =|= to the Strip. Lots of housing options, great restaurants and shopping, and a plethora of nightlife choices. The weather's better--seriously. 92% humidity and 100 degrees is BRUTAL. I'll take the dry heat, with pleasant evenings and no Mosquitos over it any day. There's also never traffic here. In Austin, there's never a time of day that traffic doesn't suck, unless you want to pay for the (expensive) toll roads. We get a ton of visitors that don't want to stay with us, so we get the joy of visits with none of the hassle. I thought I would tolerate living here. I never thought I'd love it. In the area I'm in (summerlin), everyone is super friendly, since most of us are transplants with no family here.
i love Austin, and go back when I can, but living here's been awesome. I wouldn't leave and go back to Austin right now. 5 years? Maybe. The thing I miss the most is my parents.
feel free to PM me if you have specific questions about either area. I lived in both North and South Austin, and my parents are still there.
DH said Vegas cause they have In N Out. (I think Texas does as well now, but it's been awhile). Yep. The man I love would choose the course of our life on a burger.
Seriously though, I've been to both and don't get the Vegas hate. I wouldn't mind living there.
I live in central Austin. There are tons and tons of condos going up right now, so you should be able to find something close to his work that isn't too outrageous.
Exactly. I work in west Austin-ish right off MoPac and there are so many condos and homes and for rent's going up its crazy.
Traffic blows but the traffic in Texas blows. No one can drive lol.
I do not mind Austin. H and I go there so often. We go out to eat, to hang around on SoCo, its a great city with a LOT to do.

But If you live and work centrally, traffic may not matter that much. It's really just mopac and 35 coming into town that suck. I don't have to get on either most days, there's so much to do in town. But then I don't have many other cities to compare to, maybe our regular-street traffic sucks, too, and I just don't know it.

Yeah the regular street traffic can be a pain but its not as bad as San Antonio. I do still <3 austin lol
The republicans in Texas would eat my soul. Austin is ok but it's not the bees knees. I would pick Vegas (which kind of sucks also) because you could at least get away from the strip and still be close to some blue states.
If you think Austin is not the bee's knees you're doing it wrong.
