Last night I hurt my back pretty bad at CrossFit. I had hurt it in the same spot snowboarding in February, and it had been bugging me after the 3 day drive to Mexico, then the night before we did really heavy deadlifts. For some reason last night they had us doing deadlifts AGAIN??? My second set I got it about two inches off the ground and something in my back popped. I spent the rest of the class laying on the floor with ice under my back trying really hard not to just break down crying. I did a couple times after the coach's husband showed up to help me. They almost didn't let me drive home.
It was just terrible last night, every time I moved the muscles in my lower back would spasm and it hurt soo fucking bad I cried a little just from standing up. It was super hard to sleep. Ugghhh. Luckily, today the cramping has stopped, so it's not quite as bad. I'd honestly say that was the most pain I've ever been in.
I've got an appointment with a chiropractor in 2 hours and a massage appt on Tuesday, the therapist does CrossFit so she knows exactly what I'm talking about when I tell her what happened. She wanted me to wait a few days for the inflammation to go down.
SOOO I guess that means nothing exciting for my date tomorrow! And definitely no sex for a while lol. Guess now I don't have to worry about givin' it up too soon!
Back injuries are the worst and so incredibly painful! I had a bulging disk a couple years ago and was prescribed anti-inflamatories and physical therapy, and it took a really long time for me to get back to normal. Take care of yourself and don't try doing too much too soon.
Damn I am REALLY sorry DDD. Becoming injured while working out is one of my biggest fears. At least this new guy will have no excuses not to pamper you.

I kinda lurk on this board once in awhile but I hurt myself in CF too. I hurt my hip last Aug. and it still hasn't fully healed. I've even did PT for 3 months. The physical therapist said my hip shifts out of place, thus causing the pain but I never had pain before in my life there. I swear I don't think the pain is ever going to go away. I hope your injury heals fast and you feel better soon.

The chiropractor will do full xrays before they adjust anything. Backs are kind of their thing, wouldn't they be the person to go to? I don't usually go to doctors because it seems like they never have an answer for anything. Or maybe I just need a better doctor?
Yikes! Please go see a doctor! And it's so important to listen to your body when you're working out--be careful not to push yourself to far!
I try to be really good about this, and use really good form to avoid this very situation!! I was working with a partner and she added more weight to our bar than I realized, so I thought that it would be a much easier lift going into it, by the time I realized how heavy it was it was too late Plus I never got the old injury taken care of. I'm definitely going to be a lot more careful from now on about sports injuries! I've been snowboarding since I was a kid and I've always been terrible about it. Definitely something I need to change :/

Yeah, I would say that. What if you need an MRI? I don't know, DDD. I would go to a regular doc first, but that is just me. Keep us updated.

Personally if I thought I broke my back I would NOT be going to a chiropractor!!! NO WAY! Seriously, I'd be going to the ER right now. I really really think you should

Or an urgent care center. Seriously, you could have damaged something and you DON'T want to make it worse!

I agree with this, and I go to a chiropractor regularly. But when I injured my back I went to a regular doctor because I knew something was wrong. Chiropractors deal with the everyday aches and pains we have, not serious injuries.
I went to a few different doctors, starting with my general practitioner and then got referrals for specalists who prescribed medications and physical therapy after I had an MRI and an X-ray.
That really sucks and as a person who has a hx of back issues (I had surgery when I was 21), I wouldn't go to a chiro as a first stop. I would go to an ortho or neurosurgeon. If it is just muscular you won't need adjustments and if it is more than that such as a disc out of place, I think the Ortho should recommend treatment.
Owie!! I hope you feel better soon. Back injuries are the worst. I agree with the others, get to a doctor to make sure nothing else is going on with your back.
OMG girl, why didn't you go straight to the ER! That is nothing to mess around with. I don't really understand why you aren't taking this more seriously.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to wait a few days and see how it feels before going to a doctor. It's already gotten a lot better. I can sit and stand and even get in and out of my car with barely any pain now. I've just always had such bad experiences going to doctors and having all kinds of tests and they usually just tell me they don't know what is wrong, so I am hesitant to go spend the money on multiple dr visits and X-rays and MRIs and whatever.

But you are right about the popping and I've been thinking about that too. I'm not going to make another chiro appt, and I'll think about going to the dr in the next couple days. It just sucks because I have to see my regular doc first to get a referral. And I'm poor. Not to say that my back health isn't worth it, I just don't want to spend a bunch of money going to the dr just to have them tell me "you strained a muscle". It's getting better though, and I haven't like needed help or anything.
