Is this stuff relatively new to the market? Or was it so high end before that normal people like me had never heard of it?
We're considering it for our new foyer floor, but don't want to make that commitment if it's just a trend (in which case we'd probably just go with normal wood floors)
Personally, I think it's a fad. I wouldn't use it unless I was putting it in an older home where it wouldn't be out of place. I think it would be strange in my 1980's colonial.
I think it is too. I don't mind found trendy stuff in the house, but not for something big like a flooring choice. I prefer something more traditional that won't look dated.
We have it. I remember seeing it in high-end homes in the early 2000s so it's been around a bit. We would have chosen something more classic if we intended to stay in our home long-term but we have maybe another year here before we move so we just went with what I liked
i suppose it's trendy here, as in, every home has it, but it's also not a terribly expensive choice. i've checked a few things at HD and this style is average cost. i also live in an area prone to the beach cottage-y lived in sort of look so it lends itself well to that style.
it's my top choice for my imaginary house, but if it's a short lived trend in your area, i'd nix it. like pp's i wouldn't go trendy with flooring.
LOL! I asked this exact question maybe two years ago. I do think it's a fad. I also thing it's a silly extra expense. It's like the toilet lids that close quietly. How 'bout you just don't let go of the lid until you've placed it all the way down and then use the extra money on something fun. I don't think the aesthetic of hand scraped floors is appealing enough or enduring enough to justify any increase in price. And my understanding is the increase is substantial, so I definitely don't think it's worth it.
I beg to differ on the slow close lid! My kid was constantly slamming the toilet lid before. Well worth an extra $8.
whitemerlot- ITA. Well worth the extra $5 for the "fancy" toilet seat for us, too. We're talking less than $10 for a simple convenience feature on a toilet, not hundreds of extra dollars for floors. I don't think the two compare. LOL.

I could see maybe putting it in a kid's room. But unless you only have one bathroom, you're spending more than $5-10 on that. It is completely not worth it to me. My daughter is 4 and can manage to put the lid down without slamming it. Flushing is another matter, though. Sometimes I think one of those auto sensor flushers might be a good idea. For DH, too.
We do only have one bathroom I'm not trying to get anyone going on this, it was just a purchase that was worth it for only $5 more for us. Nothing more, nothing less.
