We are on a hill, so the view from our big front window includes whatever is in our neighbors' driveway- conveniently elevated to eye level. We've been looking squarely at his big a$$ rusty boat since we moved in and I hate it. It's parked next to his equally old pick up and interspersed with piles of junk (actual junk. I think one of the piles is the remnants of an old piano, and there's some carpet in there too). Truly a lovely view.
But finally this weekend we started planting the new beds out front. We've spent about a month tearing out old overgrown jasmine vines and hauling away ton after ton of river rock. Thankfully, we finally arrived at the planting stage! We planted a nice screen of Mexican weeping bamboo right there in front of the boat. Now all I have to do is whisper grow, grow, my pretties and before I know it, I'll enjoy a nice graceful plume of weeping bamboo instead of the neighbors junk filled driveway! Ahh it'll be awesome.
(when I say 'we' I really mean my husband. I'm recovering from a surgery, so I got to bark orders all weekend as he did the manual labor- so, you know, even better!)
ooh! i'd ask for a PIP, but i'm guessing it looks rather unassuming now like most early planting does. so be sure to PIP when it all grows in!
and what is weeping bamboo? and what kind of climate do you need to make it grow? we have all manner of nastiness around our yard and we're/landlord is always looking for things to block some of the view.
Yea! How was the surgery? You gonna be in butter-eating shape again soon?
Went well! I'm recovering and taking lots of pain meds. We'll see how long I'm out of commission. Hoping to be eating pain-free fatty meals again soon!

Yeah it's pretty underwhelming now, but hopefully will be about 15' tall soon. It basically arcs out rather than growing straight up and down like traditional bamboo. Better coverage lol!
