Welcome! Sometimes people intro but the board moves pretty slow so it doesn't really matter either way. I recognize you from MM, and it'll be nice to have you post here, as well.
I'm trying to finish Cutting for Stone. I read The Fault in Our Stars a few weeks ago. Cutting for Stone has been a really slow read for me - it is a longish book, but I just found the first half to be so incredibly slow. I'm at around 80% done now and it is starting to pick up a lot... not sure I'd recommend it but glad I am going to finish it.
Up next is The Night Circus.
I found Cutting for Stone to be slower than expected, too. In the end I think I liked it and it was certainly thought-provoking, but I finished with somewhat of an unsettled feeling. All in all, sounds similar to what you're experiencing.
I've never done an intro post. Never. On any forum I'm on. I always attempt but I never know what to say. So I just jump in and post. I sort of lurk but I'm rarely on here. (Obvi, since this is 2 days later..)
I want to read The Fault in Our Stars. I hear lots of great things, but then everyone tells me I will sob and be a wreck after.
So...probably after finals week then is when I should go for it?

This is exactly how I feel about Cutting for Stone. I mostly liked it (I think) but it was definitely slow going.

TFIOS is like one sad thing happens, and then this other sad thing happens, and once upon a time a different sad thing happened, and by the way, this minor character is sad, too, etc. But it's good. Just be prepared!

Thanks! I'm excited to read it. I've heard so many good things about it.

I made the "mistake" of starting TFIOS on a flight home to SF from London. So I ended up reading it all in one sitting because it is, in my opinion, really well written and I thought the main character (Hazel Grace) was actually quite funny... but man - I ugly cried at the end of the book. I'm sitting there in my seat on the plane bawling and H was completely oblivious to me because he had his noise-cancelling headphones on and I'm pretty sure the flight attendants assumed H had just told me he wanted a divorce or something. Still, it was one of my recent favorite books, and I can't fathom how turning it into a movie will do the book any shred of justice.
Eek I can't wait to read it now after hearing this. I need something funny and amazing and that will make me sob like a baby once the semester ends. Grad school is kicking my butt.
I lurk occasionally, but I've thought about posting a few times. Maybe I will in the future. If I ever get through my latest IRL book club book!
You should post more. I have noticed your Tolkien signature when I've seen your posts on the travel board and wondered why someone with such excellent taste in literature has stayed away from the Book Club board.

I still post on TN's book board, because they survived the cataclysm by hiding out on their Harry Potter board for a few weeks. Two book boards seemed a bit much, but it's gotten a bit slow lately, and I feel like there's been very little discussion about anything other than the latest book du jour.
