I want to start swimming laps at our local natatorium, but I have no idea what to look for in a real suit. I'm planning to buy at Sports Authority, but what do I look for in terms of fit? Any helpful advice, links, etc. greatly appreciated!

Personally, I like a suit to fit tightly without binding. I prefer thin straps to wide ones (but keep in mind that I am not chestically-gifted.)
Suit choice may be limited at SA, based on my recent experience there - although I live in CA, not TX. Personally, if you have a D&J Sports near you, I'd go to one of their retail stores and shop there. djsports.com/Page/Store-Locations/ I've met with their reps a few times when I coached and they really know their stuff.

Some of them are sized using bra sizes and some are using pants sizes (in terms of numbers). You want a pretty snug fit, but not cutting off circulation. When you have the suit on, you shouldn't be able to pull the top straps past your ears, if you can, it is too big.
You can also look at Academy or Sun and Ski Sports if you have one of those by you. Once you know what size you are, you can find them online cheaper. I love Swim Outlet. I get the grab bag suits and spend about $20 for a suit.

Get a polyester suit. Lycra will wear out within 20 swims. I have a polyester suit I've been wearing for 5+ years with no issues. It will tear at the seams before the material wears out.
I also live in the DFW area. I always head to Dolfin Swimwear. I've bought multiple pairs of goggles and dozens of swimsuits there. I tend to buy larger straps (as I am chesty), and I buy a size down (for a race) and regular if it's just training. Also, keep your old suits once they start to wear out! I layer mine when I race for extra drag, great workout.
No, unfortunately. I found one about four years ago, but it closed/was taken over by another dealer. I tend to go to Kiefer (there's one in Plano) now, and I can usually find a few in their clearance section.
