It didn't live up to the hype for me, and a lot of the mythology went over my head. It came together in the end, so I guess it was worth slogging through the frustrating parts, but overall, I didn't enjoy it.

Might not be worth the $3.99 for kindle then. Thanks!
The descriptions on bn.com and amazon sort of suck. I haven't checked goodreads though. I should check there and see what's being said.

It has 4.1 stars out of 180,000 plus reviews. Most of my friends on goodreads gave is 3-5 stars. But again the description is so vague. How's a girl to know?
ETA: It is no longer $3.99 on amazon.com. I'm not going to get it.
I looooved it. But it's not a light read and you have to be willing to be really confused at points. I really enjoyed getting lost in the mythology, even when I didn't get it completely, and I loved the characters. Have you read other Neil Gaiman books?

Never heard of him. I just saw HBO was making a series out of the book and apparently a sequel is coming out who knows when.
I snatched this one up a couple of years ago when there was a good deal on B&N. I keep putting it off for some reason. I really need to give it a shot.
Neil Gaiman is someone you either LOVE or you're kind of "meh" about. I think I fall into the latter category, but I've only read one of his books. It reminded me of Douglas Adams a bit, but not quite as good.

You may be on to something. I didn't like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy either, though that's the only Douglas Adams I've read (and American Gods is the only Neil Gaiman I've read). I disliked them for different reasons, but neither made me jump into their respective fan clubs.

Alright, I think it's worth the six dollars to download it to my Kindle and check it out for myself. Might be a good read for my road trip to VA in a couple of weeks.

I agree with this. It was somewhat slow going for me and I honestly don't understand all the hype for it. I mean, I didn't hate it. I was just "meh" about it.
