McCall's did a line of some of the Fashion Star designer's patterns. I got the Nikki Poulos caftan pattern to make in the short version. I'm tempted to pick up some of the others that they had at Joann's today since the Sak's ones are cheaper to have made than to buy. I'd like to get some of the pieces in better quality fabrics. I think the Kara Larricks dress could be nice in a good wool with a lining when belted.
Oooh fun!! Someday, when I'm no longer in school and actually have time, I'm gonna sew more.
I'm actually making a pattern out of a current dress to replicate in different fabrics. I found these when I was looking for pattern paper to construct the pattern.
Ooh cool! I wonder if they are also going to sell prints made by any of the designers. It'd be cool to see some prints from Niki Poulos. JoAnn's sold some of Project Runway's designer April's prints at the store earlier this year, some of them were really cool.

All the stores I've been to lately have a lot of April's prints left. Most of it is around $20 a yard and it's only been 20% off at most. I've thought about using one of the coupons, but haven't figured out a project.
I'm very curious to know if the designers are getting anything from these patterns being sold. I'd like to see them benefit from this show in some way.
I am giving side eye to this pattern. WTF! I would rather wear my happy skittles plaid dress any day over this hanging flap under the arm on one side! What is this, how to wear a dress without being in the middle?!
Yeah I hope they get something from it. I still wonder how much, if anything, they got from selling the clothes on the show.
I feel like April probably did her own deal with JoAnn's, only because if it were just Project Runway benefiting I would bet they would do more designers. Or they would have a Mondo collection. You know PR would want to cash in on that if they could!

The articles that I read about them all had the designers saying they couldn't afford their pieces from Macy's or Sak's which leads me to believe that they got nothing. The girl with the skirt in week one only got it because it was gifted to her. In other words, they couldn't afford to buy their own pieces, nor were they given any from the show. This is the part of reality tv that disgusts me, especially with the bidding wars on this show. I'm hoping the exposure does them all some good, but not holding out hope.
I agree that April got that deal on her own and was very smart to do it. I'd love to see some of the other designers like Mondo and Uli get a fabric deal there too. They both had great prints. PR All Stars annoyed me with Kara Janx since she did an episode of All on the Line with Joe Zee and she was no better off after her first season on the show almost 9 years earlier. She couldn't get backing to put out a line and in the episode wanted to show the same style dress from PR. She also refused to design for anyone over a size 6, but wanted Sak's or Neiman's to pick up her collection even though it didn't evolve. I think they said they would consider her, but I still haven't seen anything before or after PR All Stars.
That really sucks that they get nothing, not even their own item of clothing. That is disgusting that the show and the stores profit so much on them and they are the talent.
