DH is applying for jobs, both in and out of Boston/MA. So we've been looking at housing prices to see if any of the potential moves are even feasible. (I'm still gunning for one of the Cambridge jobs myself )
Just for fun, I looked up houses in PA where we moved from. A 4 BR/2.5 BA house (over 2500 sq ft, on at least 1/2 acre) is going for $200K or less The "good" news is that I hated the interiors of all of them.

Haha you could always move to RI. Our houses are much cheaper here! I live in one of the best neighborhood in town and my house was only $20K more than my 700 sq ft condo in Salem. But of course, then you live in Providence and not Boston....

Yeah, it's amazing how cheap houses elsewhere can be.
A few years ago, a friend from my hometown in western MA bought a nice 3-bedroom house for $150k there, and she was whining about how expensive it was. I just laughed and laughed and laughed.

Haha! Yes, whenever H and I are sick of work we always daydream of moving somewhere cheap (either WMA or south). My sister bought her house in WMA with $5000 as a down payment. I think it cost her like $120K for a brand new construction house, 3 beds, 1500 ft. Not huge or anything, but you can't even buy a condo here for that.
We daydream about moving, but then we remember how awesome Boston is and we realize it is worth it.
