I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for years and I think I might take the plunge in the next month or so. However, I've always gotten stuck on where I want it. It will be fairly small and I'd like it to not be easily noticeable. Any suggestions?

No clue but just be sure that you REALLY want it. I thought about getting one after my divorce because I had been thinking about for years as well. I didn't end up doing it and now I am glad that I didn't. But that is just me!
Oh yeah, it's not something I've just lightly thought about. I've known exactly what I want (part of a quotation) for a very long time, but this is the part that has always tripped me up. I'm not in a rush at all so it's not like I have a date in mind or anything. If I'm not 150% confident on what I want and where I want it, I won't do it. Just trying to see if I can get the last little piece in place.
Question: Why do you want to make sure it's discreet? (no snark intended!)
I have 8 and they are all in places everyone can see, but can all be covered very easily. I guess when I made the decision to get them, I liked them enough to want to show them off, kwim?

No worries, a lot of people ask me why I want one if I don't want people to see it
For a couple of reasons. 1) Professionalism. I don't want a visible tattoo to interfere with employment. 2) I'm a pretty private person and don't want to draw attention to myself / get random questions from people. 3) Many people in my family don't like tattoos and body piercings and I don't want to make them uncomfortable.

So you're calling me unprofessional??? I kid, I kid!
That makes sense....so I guess I'd lean towards rib cage, hip or back.
I have 3. Two on my back (shoulder blade) and 1 on my wrist which I got when my divorce was final. The one on my wrist is covered by a watch when I am at work.
I have 3 tats...2 are stars right over where my ovaries are esentially...you can't really even see them when I'm wearing underwear, so that's pretty discreet. I love having them there.
The other is on my lower back (ah, college)
I want another and I think I want it on the side of my foot, but I want it on the inside and apparnetly it wears out pretty quickly. Instead I might do along the side of my hip, near my stars.
I have one on my lower back aka "tramp stamp" lol. I like the hip area for a discreet tattoo...
Ditto this...I have the same - a tribal butterfly tramp stamp. Although in my defense, I got it close to 10 years ago before it was called that! lol. I do love my butterfly, but as I'm getting older, if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't get it again...
Anyway, I definitely agree with the hip area for being discreet. Plus it can be there where only a "lucky" guy(s) can see it
Just a word of advice regarding size.... If you're getting text, too small will be bad and will run together. Your artist is going to try to get you to consider bigger. Listen to him. You don't want an illegible blob in a few years.

THIS! And find an artist who knows what they are doing. When I first got my tattoo the guy was an idiot and did a terrible job. The ink bled pretty bad and its kind of hard to read in one spot. And my letters are pretty big.
Mine is on the inside of my foot, between the ankle bone & Achilles. No one really notices it at all. My next one will be on my side between my bra strap & top of undies.
I would say rib cage...if you dont want people to see it. I have 3. 2 are visable 1 on my hip is not. I plan on getting 2 more both visiable in the summer months. i want one on my foot and 1 on the back of my neck.
I have 8 as well. I have one on the inside of my foot (easily covered with socks or shoes), one on my side underneath my bra strap area, and a tramp stamp. I'll be adding a rib cage piece on the opposite side, and I can't bring myself to a bikini area tat just yet. I need to find the perfect one for that. I have time - my skin isn't going away yet LOL.
Thanks guys! I'm leaning towards ribcage area. Because it's so hidden there I could also do the whole quotation instead of just part like I originally wanted to do. I really like the idea of the foot and hip area as well but it'd have to be so small to look nice there. Eventually I also might want to get a small pawprint (I'm very active in dog rescue) so those would be good places for something like that.
How bad is a ribcage tattoo going to hurt? The quotation I want is "Be the change you wish to see in the world" because it is how I have aimed to live my life for as long as I can remember. I love the idea of being able to carry it with me and hold it so close.

I had no problem with it. It hurts the worst when they get close to your boob haha. I've only had my ribcage tattooed so I can't say if it hurts less/more than any other location.
Goz, would you say ribcage hurts even more than like on your spine? I've always thought that would be crazy painful
I can deal with manageable. I'm just scared they're going to start and I'm going to freak out from the pain and then be left with black dots on my ribs lol. Wow now I really want one! The other reason I've waited so long for one is that I'm afraid I'll find them addictive so I need to make sure that doesn't happen
